The Mid America body dose not have the bulge. see top pic.

So someone must of modified the Vac plug.

I was a betting man, I would say Lancer added the motor bulge for the angle winder chassis.

This is not an anglewinder, nor a clear shell, but, it is a Lotus 56 (G. Hill Indy 68),..........definitely far different than  the "49"

PS.......no "hijacking" intended....I shall now cease and desist  :)

Cheers

Love the Lotus 56. As you may know, my first open wheel car was a Lotus 56 with an angle winder, shown before, but now seen below.

Its great to have you join in Chris, and always love to see you builds :)

After ''One hour Martinizing'' and 2 hours in the tumbler this is the result.

When you spend some time cleaning you notice all kinds of nice details.

Thanks Pablo :good: After building so many winners, you sure know how to spot one. So glad I took a chance on this one.

Notice there is a missing bar behind the guide post hole. It would limit drop arm droop if it went all the way across, but that's done with the Champion tab finger thingy. So I wounder why it was there?

Those solder tracks may have been left from an earlier chassis if that drop arm was used reused from another build. Or the builder may have tried to put something there, such as a flag stop, that didn't work out, but forgot to clean that area afterwards. When those drop arms were used on Champion's brass rod chassis, there was a crosspiece behind the front axles.

Thanks Isaac. Love the character of the original builds. I like to imagine there history. The sellers handle is micro raceway and he is in Denver Colorado. I will ask him if he knows more about the cars history.

Bill, the idea that this drop arm was used on another chassis build makes the most sense to me too. :good:

Saw this car on e-bay the other day. It was a BIN for $95 as I remember, came close to pushing the button. But did not.

Wondered if anybody here got it and would like to share better pics. For me it is enough to know the the open wheel angle winder had plenty of life after it was banned in the pro class.

I saved this pic from the auction.

These F1 angle winders are coming out of the wood work.

There are 2 ebay auctions at this time that have some period A/W F1 cars. I saved the pics if anyone cares to see?

I can send a link if anyone is looking to buy an original vintage car.

Thought I'd revive this thread with my latest arrival. Couple of broken solder joints for me to sort but not in bad shape & has a couple of nice details including running the power though the frame.

Love it Lee, anytime someone takes the time to wire tie the joints, you know they cared.

Love the detailed cut outs on the front axle tube too.

Nice score.
