Turning 75 me too

1950 must have been a good year.

It was that period just after WWII. The country was experiencing a time of euphoria, when everything was looking up. Families were forming, new housing was going up like gangbusters. Lots of babies were being born. That's why those of us born during those years are called "boomers". Born during the baby boom.

Sometimes, when I am logged on, I wonder if other readers realize what a treasure trove of life experience we have here. So many 60 plus year olds. History teaches. "He who forgets history is doomed to repeat it".

we race them box stock and man are they quick on the oval

look for race results from our races at our track

heading down to Fast Eddies for the Retro Rumble in late March

Sprint cars are a blast. In my local club we ran these vintage style cars;

Screenshot 2025-02-23 110345.png

We built them on scratch built brass chassis, using center sections ( tubs ) I punched out in a die I made. The motor brackets were from ARP. I cast the bodies in resin. With Falcon III's they were fast as a scalded cat.

Screenshot 2025-02-23 110428.png

I believe it was sometime in the 1990's that Jerry Kulich of J/K Products offered a sprint car chassis in spring steel. It had a full cage, and frame detail. Except that all the tubes were square, and you had to round them out with a Dremel. They didn't go over well, and when Jerry had a close-out, I bought six. I finished four to use on the club oval, and still have two unbuilt. I built them as Outlaw cars, with wings like the real ones.

i couldnt agree more. the essence of open wheel racing. corner marshalls need a goalie mask, glove and an athletic cup.

One of the big things that is happening to our economy with the current administration is tariffs

tariffs are a tax on imports

you might not thing it will matter much

but most if not all of what we use to have fun with isn't made in the USA

and the materials used to make the gear hub and tire hubs, and chassis parts will be

directly affected by the increased cost of tariffs

cost.jpg

this additional cost I will assure you will be passed on to the consumer which is you and me

tariffs are manly used to protect domestic industries

so, unless there is a huge upswing in domestic slot car parts production

get ready for price increases

the bean counters and shoe clerks are already crunching the numbers

Sorry I could not make it this time, but life goes on.

Great looking bunch of cars and good to see Eddie Cordell made an appearance.

I hope to make the next one.

Great looking bunch of cars. Those were the cars that were showing up in the last issues of my expiring slot car magazine subscriptions as I moved on to begin the rest of my life. So cool to see them all lined up like that and hear that they can still lay down some quick times.

These are great events and a lot of fun to participate in.

I would have been there to enjoy the fun but a celebration of life event that I felt I should attend was the same day.

Thanks for sharing the pics- they are appreciated.

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

A while back i commented on how the Brits basically wiped the Argentine Air Force from the skies in the 1982 Falklands War

Here is how they did it

https://www.twz.com/...ntine-air-force

Great story

Enjoy the article I am glad it was finally released how they did it. Those of us who were still serving like myself in the military had a front-row seat for this.

We had a small but mighty turn out for our Retro race this Saturday we got 2 more locals involved to race retro which was great

After owning this track for over 8 years I have come to understand that all slot car racing is like politics, its local.

You can basically take a track and put a 50-mile radius around it and that as far as the majority will travel for a race there are exceptions to the rule but its less than 1% from what I have seen regardless of the event

I guess I am the exception since I traveled a lot when I was working it was my job basically

This weekend will be the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, a half a century has passed since that war ended, over 58 thousand Americans died in that war, more than 300,000 wounded me being one of them.

Take care when you see a Veteran thanks them for their service.

All the best

See you at the track

The SERRA event this past weekend (3/22) was a lot of fun, I was very glad that I was able to participate.

One of the problems with having an indoor event at this time of the year is the weather might be nice (which it was in ATL) and people more often than not have things that they want to do in the outdoors.

For example, I could have not driven three hours to the raceway and played golf or done yard work or any number of other things, but I had said that I was going to be at the SERRA race, and nothing short of an act of God would have kept me from attending.

Thank you to the ASCR staff for putting on a great event and for having a well stocked parts counter so I could spend my pension $$$ at the raceway instead of mail order.

The Friday FCR hardbody race was a blast also. I didnt have a car the same as everyone else was running but they graciously let me run a car that was originally built for the live intersection figure 8 formerly at Mid-America. I promise next time I will have the "right" car built so I won't have any excuses.

IMG_0254.jpeg

The races on the ASCR Circle of Death track are at the same time challenging and fun. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

Also ASCR has a great stock of parts, so if you will be in the area, they can serve your slot car RTR, controller, and part needs for you.

Congratulations to Clyde Romero for his great result in the GT Coupe race at Fast Eddies.

PS to Clyde- we stopped into the ship board casino after dinner tonight. I won enough that I can buy some retro motors next time I visit ASCR.

Well, everything comes to an end they say

yesterday was the last day for racing at our current location

the new owners of the shopping center raised the rent 5 fold!

all of the tenants are leaving, bottom line they wanted everyone out of the shopping center

we were lucky to get both tracks to new owners in the local area

the Circle of Death will be the new

Atlanta Slot Car Raceway with only one track unfortunately in a new location close by

opening date and location to be announced soon

the Hill Climb was bought by one of our racers and will be moved to his

property and set up we were told

when I get more information, I pass it along

it was a great run 7 plus years

here is a picture of the final racers for the last day

Final day racers.jpg

Mike Bailey, Wade Osborne, Jeremy Smoot, Dylan Smoot, Clyde Romero, Eddie Fleming, Ross Fox, John Dickinson

I would have been there for the last dance but I would have had to borrow a helicopter from someone. Very glad that I was able to attend the hard body race and SERRA event last month.

Thank you to everyone involved with ASCR for the great times and hospitality.

Hey Clyde:

Are you or any of your Retro racers coming to Viper Pit on June 28-29 for the Retro race with groups from the southeast? I've really gotten a lot of interest from our GRRR guys during the Retro Rumble and the most recent race at P1 Raceway. I know we will have some top records there so it should be great race.

I've just put up a tentative schedule but we do have a few more details to work out which I will post ASAP in the recent post I made here on Slotblog..
