Hi Everyone,

Wanted to post some information I captured from my build and put it into a usable format for those of you wanting to know how to calculate dimentions for a wood track banked turn.  I hope this makes sense to you as it was a little tricky for me as well to vision.  This method was offered to me by Steve Ogilvie the track builder in the 70s, 80s and 90s.  I hope I have captured it correctly as explained to me.  It worked for me as you have seen in my previous posts.

Here is an updated (bit more words clarification) version of the banked turn calculation sheet.

I need to clarify some information on the cutting of the track sections with regards to one of the NOTES on the CAD drawing.

 

On the FLAT curve CAD drawing there is a note the states "Allow one inch of extra on each end to router trim off later".

This is misleading and is not recommended to do on any of the track sections.  You can add some extra on but removing it is just extra work and risky.  I added that note for my own safety margin, but I was wrong in doing so on all my track section sheets.  If you have the track section panels cut on a CNC router table like I did you will not need that safety margin if the CNC table has been calibrated.  If you manually mark out and cut the sections just be aware of how precise you are.  You will also notice that the note is not on the banked turn CAD drawing sheet.
