I have tthe remake by TSRF of the Lancer Ford MKII.   Dallas had the original dubro but damaged it before I bought the company and it was never repaired. I will run one off this weekend and list it.

At these latest prices on molds, I don't know folks, but I may think retirement and sell part or all of the company. I cannot see how anyone will ever make a profit or even come close to breaking even on molds when they are above 1700.

 I was not even bidding on the ford J. My computers time was off and it never went through.  Luckily I have a lancer buck so I can use it to make a multi piece mold.

I stopped watching the mold auctions a couple of weeks ago, as they were just over the top, just crazy money. They look to be beautifully made so they are obviously worth it to at least 2 or more bidders.

DK on budget so far I am over 60K on the molds. I gave up on a realistic budget a while ago. Just not spending crazy money on the newer mold auctions since there should be more then 1. 

 

Ford J went for 1700 kinda crazy since most of those molds should have duplicates.  I suspect unless American Racing or I get them they will become a shelf ornaments and no one will be able to get bodies off them. I did get the last little wagon for a good price. It has a crack so I will need to fix it but once fixed I will look to get that back in production. I am hopeful more of the ford J will show up just like the 2E and 2D molds. On a brighter note if they are going for high prices then that will drive more to come out of the closet.

FYI Scott, there are 2 LRW molds lot 205 and lot 208 with a couples of days to go. Maybe with no cracks?

You mentioned you use .020" Lexan (needing more heat) is that hard on the old resin molds or do they hold up fine ?

Sorry my fault, I quoted Roger's wrong Mid America. Seems he is bring back many older molds Parma had. I am happy with the one I have coming. I will make a rubber molds and re-pour it. I would rather spend the cash on the 2E up for auction or the 2D. 

 

I use .020 as it pulls better on the larger molds and is less stress on molds then the .040 PETG. The wing cars can be .015 or .010 but on the older molds it is just to thin. At one time I looked into using buterite jsut like old bodies but LLoyd advised me to look into warnings on when it heats up and after research the vetalation needed to make sure it was safe just did not warrant running it.

Many of the molds were made out of metalized Epoxy. These allow them to get harder the more they are heated. Some of the molds like M.E.S.A.C molds were in plaster and I would repour them and not rerun them. I know Dallas use to heat up the molds so he could emulate how Lancer did their runs ie run about 40 prior to ones ro release allowing molds to warm up,  but I have a few molds Dallas ended up burning up in his process.

 The .020 is lexan. PETG starts at .040 and then goes thicker. PETG is very hard tends to crack when car impacts. On the LRW,  I did see them I suspect they will go for more then the one I won since they are in better shape.

  Sorry not clear when I stated it my supplier for bulk purchases did not carry it below .040 in PETG But I am also talking last time ordered was 6 years ago and at the rate I am selling bodies could be a lifetime supply. All my .010, .015 and .020 are in lexan.

The seller seems to think calling these cars as Porsche must create interest in them. Now theres a McLaren and a Ford GT MKII up for bid and they are advertised as Lola and Porsche!
The last Porsche I saw was a Ferrarihe did get the Carrera 6 right though.

Too bad I dont have an extra thousand and a vacuum machine. That GT MKII would be mine!

Big_boy I believe is REH's daughter, sorry original owners name eludes me at time, getting older,  and probilbly does not know better on the molds. I know she wont bulk sale on the molds. I tried with a large sum. Good part is lancer made at least 8 of each mold dont think REH had 8 in all cases but on many so there should be redundent. I found other larger bidder besides me is SCJToys. Although I do not think with his bids he understand the narrow market these have.

 

After seeing the molds I now know were many of Dallas bucks came from. I know he had a good relationship with REH. 

 

pn6 I will get some ford MKII up soon. I have just been exausted on the weekend my day job, making medical devices, has had me putting in some long hours as we try to get some things out.

On the subject of quality, the original Lancer bodies are so crisp and well detailed. How did they do it? Can someone in the know please shed some light on this subject?
