What am I looking at? My bifocals don't work very well in the fog.

I believe in only keeping one of each slot car that I like . I have all the colors that Cox made in the cheetaracha , blue , red , green , gold , and black . The display case has the lime green cheetaracha and the mag chassis red cheetah . I also have the 1/32 mag chassis black cheetah . All are restored to mint condition. All have been run on a track . I do not like mint unbuilt slot cars in the box . I want to be able to run them when I get the chance . Collecting has all kind of variations. Each person is different .

 

 

There is a difference between collecting & hoarding. I have never been one of either. My main interest in slot cars was always the racing.

 

 

Yes, every person is different. I collect vintage M.I.B. slot cars but I also love running slot cars, any slot cars, particularly on full size wooden tracks. In fact whenever I see even a picture of a wooden track anywhere, I long to be there to run even a box stock Scalextric car with a magnet.

 

Where I'm weak is building. My building skills don't extend beyond those of the typical "just follow the directions enclosed" thirteen year old's. Like I say, we're all different individuals.

I collected 1/32 slot cars from Fly, Slot.it, LeMans Miniatures, NSR, etc - all really beautiful models in their own right that I could see go around the track but never did. I had over 200 cars not including boxed sets at one time - some with the 3rd car in the set. It all sat in a box never to be seen except for a couple duplicates that I ran. I'm only 53 and thought... I need to unload all these items that I don't even look at - it was taking up space forever, physically and mentally. I tried selling on a couple forums and managed to sell all my used cars - about 50 or so, but not one person wanted to pay a fair price for the NIB cars. I ended up selling to Electric Dreams in LA, and really made out like a bandit IMO. Not only do I have a year of free racing and track time plus a substantial store credit, I have removed the baggage in my mind that I've been holding onto for over 20 years.

The physical space is now taken up with a mini lathe that will allow me to make any 1:24 part I can imagine. I'm a builder at heart, and aspire to make cars like Niemas does, but with the great deal I have I'm getting into D3 racing which I've never done.

There's only about 20 more summers I have, I think, enjoying the 1:24 slot car hobby, and I want to enjoy every moment while I can.

There's no luggage rack on the hearse!

 

Now if I could only unload the 2 complete xbox consoles with Steel Battalion controllers, I'll be set!
