60+ degree temps in mid February and a holiday brought out a few cool cars in Chicagoland.

 

I'm not a  huge Lambo fan but this one was pretty exceptional and sounded great taking off from the light along with his Mercedes buddy.

 

 

I didn't get a great pic but here's what it is.

I see all kinds of cool cars when I am driving around. I won't, however, risk a crash in order to get a picture. So, this is one rare occasion where we are both moving, in this case southbound I-405 heading into Long Beach.

Not as bad as the cell phone gabbers. One thing I will not miss now that I can't drive are the idiots who think they can multi-task while driving. The worst I've seen is one idiot who was picking his nose and ran into the back of a car stopped at a traffic light. Really jammed it up in there. Needed to be taken to the hospital. I was at the front, two cars behind me. The A-hole had the balls to cuss me out for stopping at the red light.

I tried to take a picture of that Ferrari when it was next to me but the traffic wouldn't allow it and the camera couldn't be "widened-out" enough to get the whole car in frame.

Sometimes you're just not fast enough to get the camera ready or some SUV blocks a view but this time is a panning shot of this car. [This was at Western & Marine in Gardena... Note the black on yellow license plate: old!

No picture and it was going the opposite direction but I saw a bright yellow SmartCar towing a small (like bicycle small) trailer, near the shop. It is for a car detailing service and had a small gas engine for water pressure and, I assume, heat. It was a pretty nice rig. There's also a car detailing service near here that uses an early 60s Galaxy, not cherry but in reasonable condition.

One of my racing buddies had a string of car detailing shops called "The Last Detail", and was into open wheelers. He usually towed a gooseneck 40 foot trailer with two or three cars and all the pit stuff.. But at some of the smaller events where he was only going t bring one car, he towed it in what looked like a snowmobile trailer. He used a nicely restored '53 Chevy pick-up. Painted teal with a white roof, it had white leather interior. I wouldn't let greasy pit mechanics ride in something like that, but his shops always kept it in show condition.

 

The CEO of the facility I'm in drove his Lambo the other day, covered in snow. Obviously, it is parked outside. Might be his regular driver. A guy I knew from the Ferrari Club had a 365GTB4 Daytona as his regular driver. When he died, it had 190,000 miles on it.

The remainder are pretty explanatory. There were more 60s & 70s cars in this lot but I didn't want to be "that guy" taking pictures of everything. The Buick Roadmaster wagon is wanting to be "rewooded".

At the risk of this thread being renamed "Phil Hackett's Cool Car of the Day" I am posting just a fraction of the cool cars I saw last night. I will post more over time, all from the same event. I was at home when YouTube recommended a channel that had a live cruise-in. It was in Hawthorne, Ca (The Beach Boys hometown) and was in the median parking lot. It wasn't a huge event but big enough to be interesting.

 

It was mainly a Chevy-fest but there were a few other car makes to add color (pun intended). For this posting I'll start with a couple of Fords,  one which is pretty rare, from what I understand. So, here goes:

In the Chicago area news today; someone crashed a Cybertruck into a pole last night, and was burned to death because the undamaged drivers door would not open because the battery had become disconnected in the impact. This problem as come up several times with Tesla cars. So far the factory has not given a response.

Don't know about Teslas but the Bolt has a system where you pull the door release twice and the door will open regardless of the lock status.

While I'm here: another picture from the Cruise-In in Hawthorne. Another non-Chevrolet...question for the country east of the Rocky Mountains: how long has it been since you have seen one of these?

Good thing you posted that. According to the follow-up report at 10;00pm the Tesla owners manual doesn't have that info. The report also said that Tesla didn't respond for the request for a response to the report.

 

The original report had interviews with three Tesla owners who did not know how to get out of their cars if the battery became disconnected.

 

Incedently, if the battery is dead the only way to get into my Challenger is with a tiny key hidden in the FOB. Otherwise, you can't open the trunk where the battery is, or open the hood where the power point is.

Dave, the Bolt has the same system for getting into the car if the fob battery dies or the 12v battery craps out: there's a hidden key in the fob that operates a hidden lock cylinder in the door handle.

Hearse, maybe. Although I'm sure some small town fire depts. used them for ambulances, the floor behind the seats is a little high for any attendants to work comfortably. I suspect Pontiac or Buick wagons would work better, since the floor is lower due to how the tailgate works. The were also usually modified with a higher roof and rear door. When I was little, my town had one of the modified Ponchos. I road in the back of it with the Indian Guides in the Memorial Day parade one year.

Saturday, 7-18-26, while i was waiting for the tire shop to repair a tire these two cars showed up about 30 seconds a part.

 

Both pictures taken at Sepulveda & Sawtelle in Culver City (about 50 yards from Big Lou's Slot Car Speedway...They were closed for the week). I doubt if there was a car show as these two cars were going a different directions.

 

The Corvette had "Fuel Injection" on it's side and the license plate was 1956....
