This past year of 2025, I've been teaching myself how to create my own vacuforming car molds as well as still learning to build a chassis.
My latest project is a prototype.
I saw a used 1/24 Diecast Metal Porsche 930 Turbo with the 'tea tray' tail model car and thought this would be a good project for me to learn something.
The model (I did not remember to take pictures of it before I started "modifying" the body) was the standard 930 Turbo and as I was analyzing the aesthetics, I realized that I wanted to widen the fender flares, similar to the Porsche 911 RSR race car.
I like a widebody car!
So, I'd like to share with you some pictures please.
I won't go into how I cut all the parts, like the p henolic G10 sheet and the aluminum pieces.
You've seen that in my first build some time ago.
I originally used 6063 aluminum which is the general type sourced at your local hardware store/Home Depot, etc.
I got excited to build this project because I was able to acquire 6061 rounded square tubing for the rear motor bracket and 2024 aluminum angles.
The 2024 grade of aluminum is used primarily in the aerospace industry and I wanted to see if there was a difference from the 6061.
From my observation - yes! Definitely!
This stuff is a challenge to cut and shape; this stuff is hard!!
Fortunately I was able to get it to work for this project.

It took me four attempts of modifying the fender flares and creating molds, then pulling quite a few bodies before I was able to produce something that was what I had in mind.

I'm pleased the way it turned out and it does run and handle well.
