You go back to doing what you did as a kid. I have gone back to building plastic models. I have found, on Amazon of all places, some model kits I built when I was a youngster. Using them as PT for my hands, which are going away to arthritis and tremors. They are turning out OK, if you stand back a ways. Nothing like the contest models I built way back when. But I think I'm getting better. Done six, a P-40, F4F3, an F4U, a P-51, a B-25, and a Harley chopper. The Warhawk and Wildcat I did up as the ones a friend owns, I help restore the P-40. The F4F3 he fished out of Lake Michigan. The chopper I tried to do up like the one I had when I was 20 with the same paint and tank graphics. Different pipes, different apehangers and seat. But close enough for reminiscing purposes.

Some neat model builds Dave! Glad to hear you're somewhat keeping busy other that just reading books & watching TV. That video about the Wildcat was quite interesting. Thanks for posting it. Hang in there Dave.

Thanks, Bill. I really miss slot racing, it's what I did in my early teens. And thanks to the Chicago crew, they helped me get back to it when I could no longer race the big cars.

By the way, the two Revelle kits are the same ones I built back then They are still making them!

As a teenager, I build two or three of the model kits that were about 1/18 scale. One was a stock Triumph 650 & another was, I think, a Harley chopper. Both were in my model collection I gave my brother when I moved to the Boston area in 1969.

The EB-3 was sold. Sorry.

The Hofner has also been sold. Almost all of the collector quality items went fast.

The Fender 5 string Jazz base is still available, but a guy is coming Weds. to have a look.

Depends on how close you are to them. Look more like a two year old built them. But since they are not normally close to me, I can live with it. Certainly, with each successive model they are getting better. PT for my hands.

That's the Harley Davidson version. I paid a bit less for it from Amazon, but didn't get one day delivery. But  I can wait an extra day. The one II am looking for is the Triumph version, which I believe was based on the 650. Haven't been able to find one of those anywhere on the web.

 

 

 

This is what I'm working on right now. Pricey, but I might as well spend it before the creditors get it.

I'm going to call this one done, except that I might go back and try to fix the screwed up gold pinstriping. Shakry hands. The rear wing is not really crooked. Just the distortion from the cell phone lens. In the rear end shot, you can see the wing lines up with the tops of the front tires.

Just watched the follow-up video of  Kermit Weeks flying an F4F Wildcat. (comes up after the video I posted) Really interesting. Now I know how Dick felt when he flew his. Very busy in the cockpit!

Indecently, I can highly recommend the Tamiya Lotus 79 kit, if you are looking for a model that is very challenging. 10 years ago I could have done it justice.  Tamiya has several other F-1 kits in this series. Might try this one next;

 

 

But if I find it too challenging for my big, clumsy hands, I might go bigger;

And from the "Now I've seen everything" list. A Lego model of the U. P. 4014 Big Boy kit you build using their blocks. Found it on the website of a store that specializes in Lego. Couldn't believe it when one of my train buddies told me about it. Had to see for myself.

 

 

Even Amazon sells it. Shame on them!
