You just gave us all a beautiful New Year's present - thank you!
Quintessence of slot car. There are probably no bigger Lotus 40 fans than among the slot car brethren (second one I had to look up in this line...), who find it hard to believe that it was a dog on the track, since it worked so good on our tracks!

Oh, that's an easy one. Those're the guys usually found hanging around the cistern.among the slot car brethren (second one I had to look up in this line...)

The Brabham story and the lotus 24 goes this way. Chapman didn't actually say anything about the 25, but was making 24s for people. The first race in '62 that the 25 showed up with was a SHOCK to everyone. When Brabham complained that he THOUGHT he had purchased the newest lotus, Chapman assured him the new car was JUST LIKE his.
And Brabham wryly observed, "yes I can see that, but you seem to have left out the chassis".
That said, Brabham and company used tube chassis in their early Brabhams as well and were reluctant to take up the monocouqe. The issue reportedly was that a bent monocoque is very difficult to fix, a tube chassis is easier.

With the body installed it had a tendency to want to tip out of the slot. I added a piece of 1/16" thick lead to the drop arm. I unknowingly placed the lead so that it blocked the drop arm down stop and locked the drop arm up. The car really hooked up and no more tiling. What's the old saying....."I'd rather be lucky than good"
The motor doesn't overheat, it's fun to drive and I think Lotus 40's look cool.....DONE!
