I don't think he's as active as he used to be (We have fewer raceways.), but I've noticed a few of Bob's bodies at several retro races the past year or two. Some were on the West coast.

Clyde is being a little modest. He unfortunately had a target on his back during that Retro Coupe race. He could have easily won that race, his car was so planted.

Well, its that time of the year again
getting ready for the Fall Brawl
I really enjoy this race for 2 reasons
first, I get a chance to drive thru the eastern seaboard and see the leaves change
second i get a chance to catch up with racers I have not seen all year
I have said this before this is a great event and you should at least once
anyway, have to put my best foot of hand forward as best I can for this race
I turned 75 this year yeah 3/4 of a century old
I never thought I would live this long
a good friend of mine who flew with me during the Vietnam War sent me this link
If you want to know what it was like flying helicopters in the war
until then and hope to see you at the track

Wow! That is a good looking field.
I am particularly taken with the black #40 car with the, I want to say, dark-teal stripe, flanked by subtle gold... so nice!

The #40 car was the only Ford Mk IV body entered and is actually a dark grey base color. I wonder why more racers aren't trying alternatives to the Lola T-70?

good turnout in every class

Well, most of you have probably been following the tire controversy which happened at the fall brawl this November.
First and foremost, I would like to thank speed zone Mic and Mike and Matt for holding it all together. during this episode, which had tensions at a high fever pitch.
There is at best maybe 100 active retro racers in this great country we call America.
What makes Retro Racing in my opinion so unique is the adherence to the rule set, and just to be clear I am not saying other forms of this limited hobby we call slot cars don't play by the rules.
I am not by any means one of the A, B or C main racers not even close.
So, I don't have a dog in this fight with regards to speed, tires etc.
I am plenty fast for this guy of 75 years old and I know my limitations
That is what kept me alive along with my passengers as an airline pilot and a pilot in the Vietnam war.
The racers that have the knowledge and where with all to know about the track conditions etc. do.
And I applaud them for that.
They in fact make my race easier I just mimic their choices as best I can.
Bottom line what I don't want to see happen is, make this tire controversy cause this small enclave of racers, us retro racers as a whole, get even smaller and disappear like slot like cars almost did in the late 70's when I came back from Vietnam.
There was a valiant attempt to get a consensus on Saturday on what to do about the new tire, nothing could be reached that would satisfy everyone, some racers packed up and went home.
We don't Need that.
The track was cleaned which I believe satisfied everyone for the Sunday race.
We as a whole regardless of what the end game is on this tire controversy need to police ourselves.
Failure to do so will only cause more of this down the road.
We as a whole can little afford this fracture among us over tires or anything for that matter.
Gentlemen have a great thanksgiving and keep in your thoughts those men and women on the front lines defending this great country of ours while you are with your loved ones.
I Have !
Thank You for listening
All the best and may you have a great holiday Season
