It's easy. Nothing to it. Just don't scrimp on the materials.

Well the Mclaren went well on the Electric Dreams track even though the track is more for the 1/32 cars in size.
I've finished the inserts and wheels for the Dynamic inline with the DuBro Ferrari 312 F1 body . Next I'm going to put some inserts on the other car (the BRM/Dynamic). The rears on this one need to be deeper dish so I guess it's not finished.

The inserts look good. Congrats. The whole car turned out well.
You are right. The rears should be a little deeper for the F-1 car. What you have is a set of Chromadora 5-Star wheels to fit the 365GTB-4 Daytona. I had a big advantage in that I was around the real cars so much at the vintage races. It gave me the opportunity to get real dimensions off the full size wheels, and scale them down to fit into the Pro-Tracks and H&R 5/8ths dia. wheels.

Yeah I'm gonna carve out those rears.

Don't mess with the finished wheels. Just cast a fresh front, trim off the rim detail, and find an inner rim from an AMT 1/24th model that is deep enough so you can super glue it to the front of the resin casting. That worked for a few of the masters I made from model car wheels.
I was always of the opinion that a scale slot car was not complete without inserts or diecast wheels like Cox or Dynamic. But then, I used to put mirrors on my cars, too, so what do I know?

Ferrari looks great! the wheel Inserts really make a slot car. my vintage cars run really good with old AJs silicone tires on the electric dreams track. just dont let any of the plastic car racers see they might get mad!
Mark they told me they actually run rubber tires soaked in 3n1 oil to prep them. Crazy! I have some Original ASP rears and some mounted silicones I may try if there is a next time. I went on a Thursday middle morning to early afternoon and the traffic was ridiculous from the Inland Empire to there. 2 hours there and 3 to get back. Only 75 miles each way.......insane! Too bad because it's a really nice facility.

If you are thinking of machining the center deeper to create more offset, keep in mind that you will be removing the rib detail of the spokes. see below;
But then, if you are going to knit-pick, the rears are entirely wrong anyway. This perspective shows how the spokes blend into the rim on the real car.

I’m a bit closer than you and it’s a pretty rough getting there. I usually ride a motorcycle and it still takes me like 45 minutes. yeah lint roller and oil on mirror smooth rubber tires is the ticket there. i built up and tuned a NSR plastic car with plans of racing there but it’s just too far to go to often. Still fun to run some vintage cars if not many people on track to annoy.

The dish ones kick**s. Got a Ferrari and a BRM on the " I'll get to it" list. Hope I come close to what you've done.
Thanks. My BRM is done except for the wheel inserts. The chassis is basically a clone of the Ferrari. Once Dave turned me on to molding inserts I'm going thru some other cars adding inserts too.

One of the guys there let me drive an NSR with a 908-3 body on it.......Smooth and FAST!! 1/32 scale cars have come a long way since my old Strombecker Testa Rosa and Monogram Ford GT. I'm guessing the Revell/Monogram cars I bought a few years ago wouldn't be anywhere near the speed of the cars they run now.

Nicely done, looks very period correct. Like the upstop on the front end. With the FK style motor I guess you built it to play with.

Dave,as easy as you make it sound to cast the inserts,🤔. Reminds me of a restaurant that a friend recently opened. Every table has indirect hotplates, you get the ingredients buffet style and DIY at the table. Ok, I LMFAO at that concept however, he's opening two (2) more. Anyway, the point is ,I'm sure that there are people better qualified to cast inserts and cook my food.
Mad Mark, you might consider changing the word small to????. Addictive, isn't it?

Mark, was wondering if your car is a P75 or a P83 as they both used the H16 engine (I think Lotus used it to for a bit too). Anyway, I love that this topic came up as I have been working on a P83 (Dubro body I think) and was not able to locate any wheel inserts remotely close to the original car. So fugly or not, please keep us informed if your search is fruitful as I want some too!

Mark, the only thing keeping you from casting your own inserts is your fear of screwing up. Go ahead! Screw up! Experience is the best teacher, and I have already seen through the body work you did on that Corvair that you have the talent. If you need help, just ask.

Paul; The BRM wheel is very similar to the Chromadora Penta-Star. That would be a good place to start. Best picture I've got;
The H-16 sounds cool;
