I like the realistic looking ones like the Lotus in post 194, but ever since I saw Lee Gilbert's car on the cover of the April '73 Car Model magazine, I really started appreciating the artistic psychedelic stuff as well. From what I gather that particular body was painted by someone or a company called "Sundance". Credit where credit is due, at least in my opinion.

I'm not disparaging the wild paint schemes. But they have their place. On wing cars, they are almost a necessity. But they weren't part of the 1960s. Either way, they are a personal preference, and part of slot racing.
I've painted many real cars with some pretty wild paint jobs. And was a bit of a hippy in the late '60's. So been there, done that. It was a great time.

Ed, "Sundance" was the nickname for Lee Gilbert's friend Ted Coates. The last I knew he lived in Washington state but wasn't still involved with slot cars.

Actually, I should be the last to talk. I think I posted this snapshot somewhere in this site, but here it is again to show how crazy I got. It is me and one of my home made guitars, carrying the paisley look to it's max. Probably around 1966/67. This was the second of eight guitars I built. Extended length neck, with two extra short strings added to get even more range. Danelectro pick-ups. Very experimental, just like the drugs we were taking.

Thanks Bill for the Sundance identification. Those people that made contributions to those magazines in various ways were in the slot car hall-of-fame to at least some of us back then. And Dave, far out man! At that time I was still a kid and wasn't even allowed to listen to the radio yet. I caught up though several later

Because we lived 30 minutes from Riverside and my dad was a scale nut I was molded into someone where scale is everything. The cars I saw race at the track were what I wanted as a slot car and in the future with RC cars To me the word retro is all about production cars. I guess Im reliving my youth when I was 12 in 1966 where the real cars were being duplicated in scale for us slot car nuts.

Paul, there are other retro bodies out there other than just the favorite TI-22s. Not everything, but enough to make you happy. Ron Hershman's Outasite bodies is one source. Also check out PCH mail-order to see what they carry. Some of the Red Fix bodies from Brazil have great details.

Is there any info or documentation on pre-anglewinder chassis run by the Dynamic team back in the 60's ?
Am guessing jaildoor type frames incorporating a cast rear motor mount but would be cool to see some pics - anybody ?

The old Jim Allen scratchbuilt.com site has a few brass rod/dynamic chassis on it.

I do remember the pics in magazine of the hybrid's run by team Dynamics. These are a few (inspired by) I have collected over the years.
Jack Garcia. was the team leader at the time. You may find more in period mags where he wrote articles.

One of the old slot car magazines had an article written by Jack Garcia. I don't recall if it had photos.

If you check the Slot Forum board, there is a thread with photos on how the "Bounty Hunter" has been built 10 or 12 different ways by various people.

I orginally bought a nice Russkit Lola T70 copy to paint and put on this chassis but I messed it up so I changed to the Lola GT. The pictures I found of it showed it had Halibrands on it so I robbed an IMC GT40 kit for the wheel inserts. I'm getting too old to fiddle with fancy paint jobs so all red works for me!
I found a guy selling the Cox spur gears real cheap on ePay so I grabbed a few. Nice and quiet.
The car in the background has a Mclaren M6B on it but I'm thinking of doing a Tamiya Lola T70 hard body instead. Then maybe a trip to the closest track (over an hour away) for some play time with these.

Nice looking build Paul. The Lola GT body has been one of my favorites since I built a Monogram 1/32 kit of it in the early '60s. I don't recall having a 1/24 slot car body, but I may have. Champion of Chamblee used them on their 36D powered RTR cars in the late 60s but mine came with another body.

I too love the Lola GT. Not one of Eric Broadley's best designs, but Ford took it and used it for the basis of the GT40. With the right guys working on it, it became a winner.
I had a buterate one in 1/24th, painted kinda-sorta like the Mecom car. It was on a scratch built pan chassis. I might still have the body. And maybe even parts of the chassis.

Super clean car Paul.
Like those flat heads you used on the chassis and the wheel inserts look great too. Did you have to turn them to fit?
Dave, Eric Broadley is the man.

Yeah I've been turning my own wheels for most of these builds. I had a different set ready for this chassis but when I changed to this body I made a new set for the inserts. I have a Lola insert I got from an old IMC kit for a T70 that I'll do for the other car once I nail down the casting for it.
I had a project awhile back that needed those screws and I have a set of Thorp allen wrenches so I figured why not. They're stainless steel too.
