Most of the other cars are running wagon wheels.

Bob,
A "wagon wheel" is a light fixture in a living room in a mobile home in Texas.
You meant "actual scale wheels", didn't you? 8)

Come on Bob, where's your backbone? Tell it like you mean it! In my area, anything larger than 7/8" fronts & 1" rears are considered wagon wheels whether they're "exact scale" anything or not. :)

 :snooty:  I agree w/ Rick......This is quickly becoming a race between modern RTR chassis & motors. NOT true Thingies and replicas a-la-60s

Hi Tom
you musst be talking about the 1/32 "Anything goes" category because the 1/24 "Classic" and 1/24 "Fast&Scratchbuilt" ARE absolutely in the spirit of the 60's.
The 1/32 was made to see if "modern" Thingies were proposed. A few great bodies were made (see Howmet's) but I think in the end most partecipants did choose the easiest way out in chassis adopting, taking what was available.
Next year we'll make it "Anything goes scratchbuilt": do you like that better?
;)
Kind regards
Edo

See that, Edo, the thingie blaspheming is coming back to bite you.

In the begining quite a "stinkie" was made about a "modern chassis thingie" by "the Kingie of Thingie". Then the "Kingie of Thingie" puts a TSRF chassis under a thingie. This has upset the whole balance of nature between Heaven, Earth, and Hades. Our karma has been interrupted by our failure to keep unpure thingies pure. The gods and goddesses are infuriated.

You must realize the error of your ways lest I send an open-motored open chassis 1/32 eurosport style undercarraige under a winged J-Lo body that would make John Cauthen proud, then it will be I who rules the underworld of "thingies".   .

You simply cannot pizz off the gods of thingies, ohhh, nooo, the earth is rumbling, the snow is sliding down the sides of the Swiss Alps. It's coming, the end is coming, oh no.

You're totally right, Richard! We created only monsters!

We publicly repent, we ask forgiveness to the Thingie Goddess for letting ourselves get carried away by our own vanity and for believing we were above the Thingie Law.
We shall be punished, we shall burn all of our thingies and go back to play with plasticars forever and ever.
Excuse us while we prepare the purificatory fire...

No, No, No, No, No! Don't burn those thingies. We just need to offer up a virgin in sacrifice. Know any? They are getting scarce. :)

Not to worry, Edo! I'm building a 1/32 Hoodoo Thingie which should appease the Thingie Goddess...who I was having a few beers with last week, by the way.

It's the Betta vacuum-formed plasticard 1954 Bristol Le Mans which is so much lower and wider than the original that it looks like a thingie.

I'm going to make a bubble top by using the roof section of a clear Lexanâ„¢ duplicate body.

Chassis will be wire and brass.

A little bit of trimming and a bit of paint....so far, so good. Still in the early stages so more detail work ahead. The split bubble top looks kinda like goggle lenses so maybe I'll paint the back half of the body like a WW I aviator helmet or maybe an alien mind probe...maybe not.

Noooo! Put that copy of SHIELD 4 back in a bag where it belongs. Actually, the Steranko Captain Americas are among my all-time favourite splash pages. I met Jim once at a comic convention in the '80s. After reading his bio page in his History of the Comics I couldn't believe he was such an unassuming little guy.

As good as Steranko was, you should check out the comics I'm selling for my brother (seller id is your_auction_buddies). Glorious Williamson and Frazetta stuff along with Matt Baker GG stuff. It's a bit beaten up now, but the first "vintage" car I built when I got back into the hobby a couple of years ago was an FJ with Matt Baker Phantom Lady graphics. I followed it up with a Frazetta "Buck Rogers" body. I've got it in my mind to do a Capt America using the Steranko splash from #113, but I'm having trouble getting my Alps to work.

Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve, I left the comic in the mylar sleeve when I took the pic. It's only a G-VG copy. I've got a couple of NM copies stashed away along with the Steranko Captain Americas and his Uncanny X-Men cover. I love the classic Williamson, Frazetta and Wally Wood artwork. It was a good time for comics and slot racing back in the late 1960s. 8)

Anyhoo guys, I'm all fueled up on caffeine and sugar and in the middle of painting the back half of this thingie.

Hold on there...I wouldn't want to insult any manufacturers so I'm going to have to go with something from my old 1/32 chassis morgue. I've changed the color of the goo to blue because green was too cliche.

Bob, the blue does stand out more on your body. I didn't expect you'd be using a production chassis underneath it. :)
