This year was record breaking for fishing here.
Great salmon, halibut, rockfish, and crab.
Depoe bay is about 100 miles south west of Portland and between Newport and Lincoln city.

I have an extra room Pablo. Just hour and a half from Depoe Bay and 2.5 hours from Crescent City. Can even take you to that fishing hole and give you a place to stay at Crescent Lake. A weekend you will find breathtaking from the beauty of this.... GODS COUNTRY!

Thanks guys. I have a serious case of homesickness and wanderlust ;)
I've been dreaming of a road trip in 2010.......Fishing Tuna in SD, Golden trout east of Visalia, Steelhead in northern CA,
slot cars and Ling Cod in Oregon, and Rainbows in Jasper. It would be a dream of a lifetime.

Pablo... I take it you have fished the gulf... in particular the Ms river delta, just out of Venice... You should try this if you haven't. You are not too far from the coast, & lots of great fishing... As a special treat, get someone to take you catfishing around the old Pops Ferry bridge north of Biloxi.

Looks GREAT J!!!

Sorry for thread drift :o

Yes Ben, I have fished here locally.
But I miss scenery, clear water, snow, and mountains. ;)

Back to Flexi Wars, Hworth, I looked at my AMSRA handout motor notes........some tracks do like small pinions, and some like giant pinions. For example, Rusty Biffle's track likes 13 and 14 pinions. Most tracks like 10 or 11.

Usually I would just ask the track owner what size pinion, and what tires to use, open my wallet, and everybody is happy :yes3:

I have moved the time of the races to 4-5pm Happy Hour. 5pm Tech. Race after Tech.
So your friends there can get back to Salem early enough.

Of course for the ardent fisherman seeking an ultimate challenge try Steelhad flyfishing on the North Umpqua River some 40 miles east of Roseburg where I drove yesterday to enjoy probably our last warm autumn day.

What gear ratio should I use on my fly reel, Todd ? :laugh2:
I would probably use 2 lb mono to make it a challenge.

Jairus
So how is racing improving your builds? I know for sure they look great and I would like to hear your opinion if your racing experience is making a diffrence
in you new builds?
Love your cars but I won't take them to the track to get them trashed if you know what I mean? ;)

When I was younger and could wade out used a 10 ft rod with about 100 yds of 20 lb dacron backing, some like 200 yrds, a sink tip, 8-10 test leader with Steelhead fly patterns availible at Idleyld Trading Post.

When I was younger I would swim and skip stones on the surface of the crystal clear waters. Later water skiing was cool too..... fishing, not so much. But that too is alright for those who like it. :)

Went racing again tonight.
Was Wing racing this month and WOW did it go fast! Very few wrecks and only a handful of deslots from everyone except Carrie.
Yeah, she won again, she really is "The Teflon Gal!"
Posted Image
I didn't touch my car other than to oil the bearings from the last race. Preformed beautifully... and I suspect the go-fast elves have been blessing it because it was better than I deserved. Really hung in there on the curves. Rarely did I get passed unless it was by Carrie. But I deslotted quite a few times and got into about two wrecks.... one of them spinning my car onto the floor like a frisbee. The other one by Jimmy when he nerfed me. (drat)
Rest of the race went surprisingly quiet. I think I choked on the last heat the worst with 3 deslots. (yuk)
One heat Jeff and I sparred for 5 to 7 laps side by side until I choked.... It was intense!

However, the car runs beautifully. Nothing needs be done except get another body, as this one has gone through 3 races and is pretty banged up. But... I suppose I still should tear it down and put it on the jig just to check for flatness.

Results:
#1 Carrie, 220 laps, with the fastest qualification time of 4.3 and the fastest lap time all night of 3.944.
#2 Jimmy, 215 laps.
#3 Jeff, 209 laps.
#4 Jairus, 190 laps with a personal fastest lap time of 4.17

Jeff suggested that I turn down or turn off my brakes as it would allow me to drive deeper into the corners. I'll give that a try next time.

Respectfully submitted,

So Jairus you are revealed!!
There I was thinking you were shy!!

I have been flexiracing (falcon and S16D)myself recently and some people suggested turning the brakes back somewhat but I think it might be what suits your style of driving and what track you are on .I had my brakes cranked up hard.I thought I did OK.

Went to the track this weekend. Put in about an hour and a half and about 200 plus laps on the NASCAR Flexi. The next race is in two weeks and I wanted to get in as much time as possible. Normally I wear out a set of tires in two races and one practice. This set of tires only lasted one race and this last practice. Wow!

But... my lap times are getting better and better. During the last half hour of practice I found my "zone". Didn't know I had one but was a sudden revelation to me when it happened.
It went like this... full on then blip the brake, then full on. Blip under the bridge full and blip the donut then full on all the way around the next turn and don't let off until the timing strip blip and back to full on till the bridge. It got so repetititive that I found I didn't even need to keep my eyes on the car unless someone deslotted ahead of me. Noticed that my times started decreasing by then and did a great bunch of laps at 5.410 which is the general rarified atmosphear the rest of the pack seems to be running at so ... might have a chance next race day. Oh... and I turned down the brake to min. Seems to help keep the tires stuck to the track. But try as I could, just couldn't manage to do a 5.3, but THIS IS FUN!

Hi Jairus,

Sounds like you're progressing right along. It seems like a person that is interested starts getting the hang of things after about 12 races.

First you'll start seeing the whole track and similiar to a skeet shooter, your eyes will lead the car. Next, and when driving really improves, time will slow down. It starts to seem you have 4 or 5 seconds to get through each corner.

Also be aware that for a lot of folks a Hill Climb is the toughest track to drive. I believe it's the cars passing under each other on the straights that distracts me but I have a terrible time concentrating on a Hill Climb! They are a lot of fun to race on though! :)
