One thing to remember, Can-Am cars of the era, were often painted in a single color. McLaren and Chaparral, as well as the above mentioned Ferrari, are good examples. However, if we want to represent slot cars of the era, multi-color paint jobs were not uncommon. How can you have a Retro Race in Chicago, without someone coming up with a Dave Bloom type paint scheme??? I guess, that a case could be made for either approach!
You mean something like these Dave Bloom Type paint Jobs. They were painted and raced by Sano Dave Fiedler. If you look close at the Can Am car, he even paid homage to Dave Bloom by using his signature DB logo (substituting his own initials, DF)

As usual Ron, cheap shots. ALL your cars at ALL the races look, if you allow me, like crap. Sure they run good, sure, your technical knowledge and your driving experience brings them right up there at the end of the day, but their presentation should cost you and similar cars done similarly by othes, some kind of penalties in the final tally. of course that's not in the rules.
So to make your crummy point, trying to squirm under the criticism by others, you take ONE example of ONE car done at the last minute in the FIVE classes I ran at the Checkpoint, in which my cars placed in Concours twice, then make an example of it. I call this pure hypocrisy.
You have been hinted by plenty of people for the past two years that of all people, YOU should be giving an example, but instead, it's one crappy body after another. Don't feel that you are alone here, by the way, but you are alone in trying to make every excuse in the book, to the "letter of the law". F*** the "spirit" of course, that meaningless ugly word.
Then you, Plain & Simple Ron, give lessons in BS to everyone here.
I have to congratulate you, you are really good at it.
Thanks for the congrats......... No BS.... simple facts.... some here like to throw it in my face and when it gets thrown back....... they can't handle it when it is shown and proven right here in black and white and sometimes in color.
Hypocrisy???? Sorry..... you run a one color "boring" paint job.....I call that out.... and now that's hypocrisy. But that ok as you want to use the excuse because the car was done in five minutes. Whatever!!!!
Oh I could go and get more "fine" examples of cars raced in D3 with one color paint jobs, but I don't have the time. I recall posting one of Steube's one color jobs in a past post when this came up.
My cars are built within the specifications....... it doesn't matter how much time I have or do not have to paint them to someone else's standards or how they think I should be painting them.
While my you think my should be painting my cars to provide an example.... I prefer to set an example on and off the track with tech advice, helping others make their cars better, faster and helping other with suggestions on how to be a better racers or driver and how to turn more laps.
It takes more than a pretty paint job to set an example, finish races and win races.

Slow1Ron, please check this out. it's called "Retro Pro".
it is NOT a Retro Can-Am car. Retro Pro is a faster D3-racing class using an angle-winder chassis and faster motors. This is the irrelevant car that Ron chooses to make his point. Please don't fall into the Hershman propaganda machine, inform yourself first.
I ran that single-color car twice before getting a properly painted body.
if you want to see what I run as a Can-Am car, please see the pic below:
The car above is painted exactly in the spirit of pro-racing cars of the late 1960s, as painted by Dave Bloom. Of course Ron is not going to show you this car. While I OCCASIONALLY run an ugly duckling, it is the exception, not the rule. In the case of Ron, it the "rule".
There is a strong difference of philosophy here.
It sucks. How's that? And your problem with this is???????
YOU of all people, should do better.

As long as it meets the rules, who cares? There is a reason why we entered a race and not the OPTIONAL concours event.
Although I did go all out with the two tone fade and sponsor.

Ron, I think those "Wing Bodies" are for the Retro Pro angle winder class. It was great seeing Cheryl and yourself again.

In the case of Ron, it the "rule".
No...... mine are WITHIN the rules. Go read what the tech inspector already posted here.
According to your D3 rules..... my lovely paint jobs would be legal there too.
5. Body rules
5a. Body style: Bodies must be originals or exact reproductions of pre-1970 Can-Am or Sports/GT bodies by Russkit, MAC, Lancer, Associated, Dynamic etc. No "flattened" or "aerodynamically improved" bodies allowed (i.e. no molded-in spoilers, wings etc that were not on the original full-size car or original mold). Bodies with molded-in cockpits are not allowed even if cut out. Front wheel arches must be cut out. Rear wheel arches may be left closed if the original full-size car ran with closed wheel arches. Bodies must be presentably painted and carry at least three racing numbers, one on each side, and one on the front. No part of the chassis may be seen when looking at the car from its top. Bodies must be molded from material with a minimum thickness of 10 thousands of an inch.
Example of car for this class:
Sorry... your rules.... from your website....pic from your website....... looks like one color paint jobs are legal according to your current rules.
I guess you'll just call this another cheap shot???

That ought to bring a higher level of participation, hey?
Oh so you want to gain participation in a tough economy by telling them that they must spend an extra $40.00 per body before they can race?

How come I am not surprised? We now have a team!
Congrats Ralph on a real beauty. That ought to bring a higher level of participation, hey?
He forgot to do the stacks.
Keep up the bickering about paint jobs and you will only decrease participation.
Change the rules requiring and forcing drivers to paint to a harder or more difficult specification..... you will decrease the participation.
And for those who can't paint "correctly" in a certain "eyes" here and force them to buy a 75.00 body with the "correct" paint job and you'll decrease the participation in a quick hurry.
Increase the time and money to participate and you will decrease the participation.
No one could tell how the cars were painted in the streamlined video and only those in the building at the time could. If there was no pictures...none of you who would no how they were painted as you didn't participate in the event.
If you want to increase the participation.... get off the keyboard and go race!!!!

One is for the guys who want to have fun.
The other is for the guys who want to race.
The guys who want to race will race and the ones who want to have fun can hang out and have fun.
Maybe we need to add another sheet for the guys who want to bring pretty cars???

You forgot the third category: the guys who want to have fun and also want to race. I am in that one.Like Rande says..... maybe we need to start having to sign up sheets at the races.

This is rdiculous. Ron doesn't paint pretty bodies. Ron goes fast as hell. End of story. Why do some of you insist on criticizing someones choice. If you want to paint a pretty body, please do. If you don't, oh well. What is most upsetting to me is that the ones yelling the loudest weren't there. If you think someone should set an example, how about you. SHOW UP, OR SHUT UP.
