Mill, the Jail Door rules for 2010 have not been posted online yet.Where would one find the new Jail Door Rules for 2010 ?
There's only a few minor changes which will not affect most racers.
The one change that will affect some racers is that the drop arm can only be one layer of brass/bronze rod. You cannot have two layers in order to get the proper guide height. I know that Jeff Easterly and myself will have to redo the drop arm on some of our cars because of this rule. Look at the photos of the drop arms shown in the Jail Door rules. These are the single layer type which are the proper type.
Another minor change is that the rear spoiler can be painted (or clear).
I should have posted the minor changes previously, but forgot. I will post a notice later tonight pointing out the minor changes for 2010 (and therefore will be used for the Checkpoint Cup).

It was an oversight, sorry, my fault when I corrected another oversight. Pillow block construction is not and has never been and will never be accepted for any D3 racing class and a rear-axle tube is mandatory in the Retro Coupes as well as Retro Pro and Retro NASCAR.
I did review and corrected as needed.
The grand-fathering of older chassis ends on December 31, 2009, so all the chassis used in the Checkpoint cup must conform.
No oversight P. Pillow blocks are allowed. They have been since Bryan introduced his kit. Paul Sterrett builds angle winder brackets with them and Bryan has a very nice bracket that has been approved. So IMO I think pillow blocks are here to stay.

Indeed the rules have always required an axle tube but as the sole and unique Warmackster, and always doing something different, the rules will have to be adapted to suit your creativity because there is really nothing wrong with the way you built your car.
The object of the rule was to keep the chassis "retro" by using the axle tube like in the old days, but your construction method is just as retro since it was also used in the day, so...

Actually there was not a ban on pillow blocks just a rule that no steel could be used. A number of racers, myself included, ran cars with Bronze pillow blocks that were legal, then banned, then grandfathered then in limbo. Who knows what the D3 gods will decree this week.

What is allowed is the use instead of an axle tube, of an expanded version of the inline bracket formed for angle-winder use (AKA a 3-sided one-piece formed bracket made of sheet brass). Pillow-block construction such as independent pieces keyed into slots or soldered against rails is NOT allowed.
I will post illustrations on the D3 website to make sure that this is totally clear.

I had posted the pillow block question about a year ago when I wanted to attend the Checkpoint cup. At that time PDL commented that the rules would be changed (that never happened) and only chassis made prior to the rules addition would be grandfathered. I believe he said Keith's race report photos would be used to verify previously built cars.
Personally, I would ban Brian's chassis and any that aren't made with an axle tube instead of adding loopholes

CHECK IT OUT.
However, if a car is built in the manner described on post #61, it will still be allowed so as to help people use existing kits using a U-shaped rail such as the JK to make an angle-winder car.
What is not allowed is to use modern technology such as used on a wing-car or Eurosport chassis.

Just as long as there is no confusion. So there are two "kinds" of pillow blocks. Yes, the D3 rules website should reflect the clarification. Thank you.

Why open a can of worms? Even Foamy's pillow block chassis could be made legal with the addition on a tube between the uprights, as per the rules. IMO, I think Brians motor bracket is very creative and does NOT use pillow blocks and is in real spirit of building. It's much too close to raceday to be debating trivial matters and possibly ruining a good event.FWIW:

No, Mark, there is only ONE kind, and D3 does not allow it.So there are two "kinds" of pillow blocks.

There won't be cans of worms long as there is perfect understanding. If it doesn't have and axle tube for the rear axle assembly, then it IS pillow block support by design. I think Mr. P should post a pic of Brian's 3 sided bracket on the D3 website so the issue is settled. I don't want to show up after laboring for hours on a chassis to be axed for rules infractions.
