John:

Hopefully you'll have some hard body racing nights as well.

I was talking to John Reimels last night. He raced in the Tuesday night retro race on the King. Later he tried the retro cars on the Purple with very excellent results. He said you had to really slow down to drive the donut.

The "eclaire" is way faster than it appears! :shok:

You can really rail the donut once you get it figured out! :D

From Wiki:
Color blindness
Look at the charts...

Protanopia and deuteranopia.
Protanopia and deuteranopia.

If the 2 lines above look the same to you, the track in question would have looked blue to you.
I bring this up despite the fact that some observers have stated the track was blue and they have no vision problems.
The prevalence of color blindness is supposedly 1 in 76, but my experience dealing with it on my tracks is that that number may be low.
I've not been able to find out whether it's something that comes and goes, but the coincidence of calling purple "blue" in this thread is remarkable, since that's exactly the symptom of Protanopia and Deuteranopia.

I've noticed that even in the black & white advertisments back then, the track looked purple!

:laugh2:

sure would like to run on one again, I ran on one only once before, the one in Columbus on the way home from the '70 Cleveland NCC race.

I ignored the King while the locals chatted it up with Cukras and Zimmerman. This was on the epic "Rambler Journey"

I'm glad to see that Modelville has a member or two of the Royal Family in Ashland. What's the royal name again for the American Black?

Peter has purchased a Royal and a MTT. The Royal will likely be setup with Magnabraid to suit 1/32 plastic cars. It looks like the HO tracks will move to another room in order to clear space for the Royal and the flat track in the commercial space. No ETA for this.

Personally, I am delighted that there will eventually be a flat track at the raceway. Stay tuned...

Spud,
That's sound right to me. The HO white Buck track will probably goe were the existing Bowman Champion track is presently sitting. That will become the H O rental track. The H O Club tracks, Champion, Car Model Track and H O Purple Mile will probably go behind the garage door were the Club Room will be set up.

According to Peter, Gerding is now rescheduled to come out to Ashland to build the Purple Sovereign early March. I know that once the infield is complete you will probably see more photos and videos of the track.

Last Tuesday night Peter was getting a mental image of how and where the two tracks might be laid out. I'm not speaking for him but I'm pretty sure he would like to have both tracks in the same area as the King, Sovereign, and 8.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Dominator,
We may need to be concerned about Peter's mental images!

We were able to run homeset cars on the Royal 'as is' - without magnetic braid. I have run on both...a light spray glue is all that is needed. Our local 1/32 club usually run silicones, lead ballast, and NO magnets on dry/satin to flat chalkboard painted tracks.

John,

Will Peter be setting up the MTT? If he is, would he be interested in holding a ISRA/USA Northeast regional race?

Hey John,

Holding a ISRA/USA Northeast regional race would be a great idea but we need to get this set up. Maybe in the fall.

The new tracks have arrived in Ashland. Last night Peter and Richard were laying out sections on the floor of the raceway to establish where the Black will go. Gary Gerding will return Sunday(?) to work on the Sovereign and the Black. It's not clear when the MTT might be assembled.

It appears that the figure eight will have to be moved back a few feet so that the flat track can be assembled. Met Steve Page last night. He was the previuos owner of the Black and flat track. We had him racing H O cars on the H O Nuvolari last night. Considering he never raced H O and he was still in jet lag mode, he did a good job racing the wee cars.

On Saturday 03/05/11 my youngest son (16) and myself spent several hours on the Soveriegn, and it is just SO worth it! The track is very reminiscent of the way tracks were in the 60's, the colors, the banks, the turns........it is simply great. The infield's not done yet, and I'm sure that there are a lot of little things the owners want to address, but we had a grand time launching a few cars off the banks, bouncing them off the building walls/tables/chairs, and just going as fast as the cars we have could run. For all that haven't been there, Modelville is super clean, spacious, and friendly.......After getting him fed on the way home Saturday evening, the first question was...."When are we going back?" ( The answer...."When we're done fixing the wrecks!) For everyone that remembers American Raceways in the 60's, or just likes going fast........you HAVE to run this track! High 5 to Modelville!

Charlie,
I'm very happy that you got to Modelvillville and had a chance to run on the mighty Purple Sovereign. I'm assuming that you just missed Gerding or he was at the raceway working on the infield while you were there. Gerding is at Modelville all week to complete the infield.
