Gear ratio advice needed. I'm running a lightweight ugo frame with a grp7 b can that looks like a 25g or 26g single. I've got a 7t pinion fitted, but would I be better off with a 6t? Track's too far for me to try both so I'm just going to have to pick one. Regards Steve c
Steve, I started out with a 7/28 only because I had them and wanted to keep the tire diameter small. But that ratio 4 to 1 tended to make the motor too warm after a 3 minute heat. And I mean REALLY warm even tho the car was really fast!!!
So I raised the ring gear to a 31 giving me a 4.7 to 1 making it even quicker off the line but limiting my top speed.
Though... on the test track I have access to, the straight is shorter than a King and I never actually SAW it hit it's stride. But the result was the motor stays much cooler no many how many minutes I run the car. Also had to increase the tire size to make sure there was plenty of clearance.
My thought for you would be to stay with the 7t pinion and try a 30 and a 31 crown. Crown gears being easier to swap than are pinion gears while at the track.
Incidentally... during the late 60's and early 70's racer were running as high as 5 to 1 ratios.

Looking at your chosen bit's,
I'd say you already knew that, and have a beer in one hand and a smoldering iron the other.
Nice solder work Bob, keep the flux flowing!

That is a U-Go Smith bracket same as the tongue. The are vintage, well with-in the period and legal.
I used them on my first chassis and it is shown as legal on post #1.

Hehehe i see had you there...Points at his Sig...wrong shade of orange
For me it's all good, the more people who enter the better (less chance of me being last in both races)

Planning on using dyed pinky, if I can get the dye to work, or Cox (2nd choice tooth count).
Rear wheels Russkit repops, front wheels unknown from an old scratch chassis picked up in an ebay job lot.
The endbell is dark blue, but looks black in the pic.
Are there any restrictions on lead wires? I had a look back through the rules and posts, and can't find it if it's there.
I don't have any suitable 'vintage' stuff.

And I didn't write any rules about lead wires so use what ever you have thats close enough.
