Rick,
...... but look a little closer (please excuse my crummy photos) at the motor frame/magnet poles. Dennis Sampson told me an old Pittman hop-up trick was to take an old motor, cut off the sides and double them up on your good motor for more field strength at the armature..........
Now I see the light! I'm going to have to try that one

Wow beautiful creation Bruce!! Still can't believe all of these awesome cars have wooden bodies, none of them look remotely wooden with such stunning details, carving/woodwork and mile deep paintwork.
Love the Merc good luck in the Proxy!

Too late for me to try it on this project. But then with the magnet ZAP Rick preformed.... this motor already overpowers the limited tires.

Rick that was also a popular trick back in the day in the UK with the MRRC "3 pole" motor that is very similar to the 196B (also available in the UK), Tyco and other open frame motors..
From experiencing the "notching" effect when you turn over a motor with double side plates on it really does work!

Up and running...
Got a brief chance to do some track testing on BPR's recently refurbished flat track and am very pleased overall with the speed and handling.
At nearly 200 grams she's no light weight, but runs out smooth as silk and is very forgiving. The Paul's urethane rear tires provide adequate grip but also allow the car to slide a little in the turns with no tipping (Thanks again Capt. Rick!). There shouldn't be any problem with keeping it on for the Proxy drivers.
I'm hoping that eventually there will be some tips or info offered on how to safely box and ship the cars, "wooden" want them to suffer from any in-flight mishaps

We sometimes are approached by folks who don’t pick up on what’s an essential component in the PPS paradigm- modeling. So your being an accomplished slot car modeler we are delighted with your visit.

Hi Bruce,
An intervention has taken place and I have been shamed into cleaning up my work table (which has been in a state of chaos for over 40 years! ) and finishing off my cars. Pictures soon!

Thank you Bob.
I gave Jaak three weeks, one week ago. He's working on his car even today.
How much time do you think you'll need to get your entry finished?

My original thought when Jairus first proposed this was yes, I could run an old balsa body I had just found - and then when I saw what beautiful work people were doing, I put everything on the back burner.... but Jairus and Rick have encouraged me to enter anyway, so here is the period balsa body I found last year on ebay, along with a chassis from my endless box of chassis that just about fit it perfectly! I just added a back body mount, and modified the front a bit to hold in the chassis, but that's the original post and back bracket inside the body. The front was either broken off or shaved way down, so I built that up again, without completing the whole nose oval, and touched up the silver paint. I also tried touching up the purple body, but that was probably less successful.
Now, the car is marked "Scarab" and "Bob". The Bob is probably right, not so sure about the Scarab, after looking at period photos from Scarab's rather abortive attempt at F1 in 1960.... Could be, but shape is not quite right and it's missing some details (oops, just remembered - does anybody else already have No. 7?)
Have to work up some kind of windscreen, and maybe a rollbar, and then it's ready to go. I'll probably repaint the driver, since Lance Reventlow had an orange firesuit, and you just can't pass up that opportunity! That's a KTM motor, made in Japan, and it seems to have some speed - but we'll see! I left the original "Riggen Special" tires on the front and used Paul Gage tires from Canada on the rear.

Go Don Go!
Vintage and correct... and strangely enough, nobody has the number 7 so you are IN! Welcome aboard.
Now, see about zapping that magnet and test her out as best you can sir.

The cars are magnificent!
Not to get off the subject put I almost fainted when I saw that STP Welcome race fans banner
I have not seen one like that in 40 plus years. I had the same exact one that I cut off the fence at National Speedway about 1972 or so. I don't remember the year exactly. It was the same day the New Yorker Funny car lost it's body. I had a little piece of that too. Sadly, both pieces are long gone.
If that banner ever becomes available, let me know. In any case, thanks for the memories
