Hey Rick I used a 1K primer/filler from an automotive store.
Unexpected expensive stuff but good for the strength I think.

Just got the Tamiya TS43 paint today so hope to lay the first layers in a bit.

Hi Jaak,

Will the 1K primer  will be OK to cover with the Tamiya lacquer or should you test it first?

Pretty sure that is a catalyzed automotive primer if used with the thinner.  It should be fine with most any paint.

I'm pretty sure it will be okay too, but when you're not sure about mixing different brands or formulas of paints, it's a good idea to spray a test part or hidden area first to experiment with the combo before applying it to the model.

Another fair example is I wanted to use clear lacquer instead of Future over the Patto's decals. I first sprayed a sheet of plastic with Tamiya Silver to use as a test card, applied some un-used decals from the Patto's sheet, then topped them with a heavy coat of clear lacquer to see if it lifted or damaged the decals. The results were good so the test confirmed that it was safe to use lacquer over them.

I can confirm the 1K primer/filler and Tamiya work well together.

I did another 2 coats of the primer and then 3 coats of Tamiya TS-43 will wett sand it once more and add some extra layers tomorrow when the body mount pillar goo is dried.
The dust in the picture is because I did the pillars after the paint dried and then took pictures.

Now that's smooth Jaak, very nice indeed!

How do you like the Tamiya paint? Much better than Rustoleum no doubt :D

Hoping it will soon be time to dust them all off and prepare to Race!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys appreciated  :victory:

Paul,

It should not take to long now Allan is kind enough to send me some bare metal foil to try and the interior is nearly sorted.
Got the headlights printed out on paper. I used a photo of original TR3 headlights that where for sale on E-pay and resized them to the proper size.

Getting really close now.

Bruce,

I love Tamiya paints and have used them on many occasions but the colors they had on offer for the green where non to my liking and the Rustoleum seemed perfect.
Little did I know  :dash2:

Rick,

Yes that is the TS-43 Tamiya paint the previous photo had the wrong light and looks a lot lighter then it is,

these last pictures show the true color and turned out darker then I thought.
I am sure the (light) Grey base coat helped it turn out darker, darker then I expected and actually a perfect shade of Green.

Ok after two more repaints I got close to satisfaction gave it two proper coats of clear and did the detailing,

One other mishap set me back a little.. my sweet son fed the grill to our loving dog:dash2:  but got it sorted and the car will be posted tomorrow.

Thank you Jairus and Regis.

Means a lot to me to receive these compliments from such a professional builders,

both your cars are way out of my league but I am happy to participate.

To elaborate a bit on the parts used:

The motor is a Pittman 196B with Bevel gears.
The wheels are PCS 32 24x6 Classic Spokes from Pendle Slot Racing. https://www.facebook...endleSlotRacing
The Driver is a resin cast from Immense Miniatures, it came with 6 different types of era heads https://www.facebook...ense.Miniatures.
The toneau cover is made from my son's swimming pool vinyl, then painted with Humbroll matt enamel black.
The mirror is a bit of filler shaped as a mirror stuck on a needle.
The front metal window support is made from a needle bend like a staple and the window itself is made from transparent package material.

The car is modeled after one from the famous unknown club racer named Jacques Jambes.
Legend has it that at his first victory he threw his helmet in the air at the same time as his brother Gilles fired a victory shot with his gun.
The bullet pierced the front flap of Jacques his helmet and he used it as his lucky helmet ever since.

Friends,  you need to finish your car and send them to Jairus.

To date, it has only five cars to the proxi.

We must get at least eight cars in order to race.

it's sad to stop a beautiful adventure

It's TIME!
intropic2-vi.jpg
TIME to get racing that is!
We've talked about it plenty.
I've given everyone more than enough time to build.
There are racers all over the world soooooo... get your cars mailed in!

Address is:
2013 Goodwood Proxy
c/o Jairus Watson
500 W Hills Way NW
Salem, Oregon 97304
USA

Paying for insurance and tracking is up to you.
There is NO entry fee!

Only cost to the entrant is return postage, if you want your car back.
You can include it in the package or paypal the postal fee later to: jairuswtsn@aol.com
Please include return address inside legibly written along with your email address so we can correspond later.

That's all!
I will be reporting the first race date soon as the last car gets here.
All cars will be carefully photographed for the Concours voting to take place on Model Cars Magazine forum site.

I am considering removing my Maserati 250f from Concours after it was brought up that I used a photoetch steering wheel in the cockpit.

IMG_1212-vi.jpg

So far only one entrant has mentioned this....but, in order to remain totally neutral and host a fair competition.... I feel this is the right thing to do.
As for racing, I plan to let my car go, GO, GO!
