Thanks,

Simple Iso-Fulcrum chassis would not have been possible in this small 1/32 Monagram body were it not for the Direct Drive motor without losing the interior.

 Looks very nice.

How does it run?

If it's tippy at all, I would suggest a little more weight, obviously down low.

Though Sidewinder runs at 10 volts the car runs pretty smooth. I'll add a little weight to the front and run it in.

Well I found that I need more weight on the chassis and lack of brakes are a definite negative at the end of a long straight. Too bad dynamic brakes are illegal LOL . It's smooth though and mine was near silent. Need to try it on a track with more volts. Will ruin it next week on 11 volts. The guys I race with don't run any higher.

Am I happy with the motor? You bet, every time I get to run my McLaren I'm all smiles. Now if we could shrink that motor down further ...

. Too bad dynamic brakes are illegal LOL .

If you have a 3 wire hookup, you have dynamic brakes. I think you're thinking of power brakes.

You're chassis looked super-light.

LOL.

Jiri was definitely pushing.

It was cool watching the 3 of them run.

It was like looking at a slot car silent movie.

I'm looking forward to my local track getting a couple of these in to try - should be interesting to see how they do on high speed tracks!  :)

I have not seen one of these much less run one, but the JK pictures look like the perfect first car for those with no experience or soldering knowledge.

Same here, Eddie. Haven't seen one except in pictures; have no experience with them, either.

But I'm curious about one thing: is there anything bracing the motor on the endbell? The pictures only show the other end of the can. If not soldered, I would have to wonder if two screws on one end are enough to hold it securely in the chassis.

Still looks like fun, and I'd love to experiment with one.

Jim

I looked on the JK site and the other end has a loop that looks like it goes around the bearing on the other end. nor real secure but we are talking easy starter car. also the motor shaft is the axle so no movement between motor and axle??

I'm not sure of the exact wind, but lots of turns of tiny wire.

At 7.1V, they draw 0 amps. Lol

If I goose the voltage control, I can get the amp meter to flash .1 for a split second.

I came up with the idea and Jerry jumped on it.

IIRC, he said sales were decent, early on.

A local guy, with a garage track, tried one and liked it, and bought a set for IROC racing.

I'm not sure how they worked out for him because he had a house fire and his monthly racing ceased for a year or 2.

I think of them of them as more of a class of race car, with lane changes, racing against similar cars, vs. a rental car.

I'm not sure if they are the kind of car you want to run 45 minutes straight.

Mike; I don't know if you recall, but I bought four altogether, after buying one and trying it on the Bensenville

group's routed tracks. They ran pretty well, but I just wasn't able to get them to accept a 1/32nd car with a

metal chassis. We did run them a few times in IROC style races, but there just wasn't enough enthusiasm

for them. I ran a few times in the Fly Classic class and did OK. The Flys come out of the corners faster, but

the JK could carry more speed through the corner. I eventually gave up due to the opposition to the cars having

lexan bodies. I agree they would be a good starter class if you could get the big car guys to accept 1/32.

I bought two of these and have pretty much left  them with JB at Downriver Speedway to use in his rental car fleet. His experience is after people try both the JK direct drive car and the Parma belt drive rental car that they prefer the Parma car. I am not sure why?? There is not a much more torturous experience with a slot car than with the Parma rental car. JB thinks people might like the direct drive car more if they just had a little faster motor wind in them. As it is they will barley de-slot on his 155 Grandstand track. So far they seem to be durable as the motor shaft has not bent in either one of them. Perhaps if they were the only type of car available to rent people would like them.

Yep. Seeing that pic makes it appear much sturdier than I had imagined. Thanks.

I humble myself, bow my head and back away quietly.

I just bought one of these things out of curiosity. Not what I would call exciting to drive, but great for beginners and old farts.
