Mike,

Just how much of the shaft was left to attach those rims to??  Hard to tell from the pic but doesn't look like much...

Enough to engage the set-screw and run smooth. overall wirth in the back is 3.095".

I'm not sure if the shaft is longer on the "real" DD motor, the JKH-DD.

Regardless, for 1/32", it's plenty wide enough.

Also, what kind of tires are those, 87002??

A bigger dia. version. Probably started at about .790".

Thank...

I got a few RTR's in today along with some motors.

IMO, Jerry really hit a home run.

They ran great. Much more brakes than my Hawk 25 powered prototype.

They also ran amazingly cool for something with no gear advantage.

I had zero problem getting around by toughest lane on the flat track, Black.

 100_9979.jpg

100_9981.jpg

The shaft is long enough for over a 3.500" rear width with .800" wide tires.

100_9984.jpg

Lots of turns of small wire.

The car zipping around Blue lane.

After running  2 minutes plus , straight, and then stopping a short time to start up the camera.

Warning; if you believe the motor doesn't get real hot, skip this video.

You might find the ending disturbing.

Dumb question. Can you show the best way to utilize the sleeves? Picture please?

Dennis,

I had just Pm'ed you, but no reason why I can't post it here.

I showed it on the shaft for clarity, vs. stuffed in the wheel.

The top photo shows it hanging off the shaft, just so you can see the notch clearer.

The bottom one shows it on the shaft.

If all you're going to use is 3/32" bore wheels, you probably can just solder the sleeves on the shafts

If you permanently solder the sleeve to the shaft, when installing the first set of tires , I would just very lightly tighten the set-screw.

Take the tires of and spot the set screw mark.

Lightly grind away the brass, on and near that mark, so you are tightening the set-screw on future installations, into steel / a surface below the outer circumference.

Like I said, cheers to the guys who say "what if?"...and then go ahead and actually do it!  Now...what about a Hawk with a 3/32 DB shaft and say 110 turns of #31 wire for kicks!?  ;)

For future/other applications, maybe Jerry can make replacement arms for his mini can motors like the Hawk 6.  Then you might be a better able to run these cars or their 24th scale cousins on bigger/longer tracks...

Bill,

Not a bad idea.

With the bigger brushes, the motors might have more brakes, especially if you put heavy springs on them,

and would be rebuildable.

But one thing at a time.

Yes, but you would need one that runs CCW.

I need suggestions on how to build a chassis for this motor.

100_9997.jpg

You could use one of the LH brackets you got from me, turned around, something like this, obviously trimming away

any brass in front of the motor, for clearance.

101_0001.jpg

Or graft on one of the slotted reject brackets I sent you, to your main structure, which would allow you to use different dia. tires,

and still be able to adjust it to whatever clearance you prefer.

I ran the RTR car on a routed oval last night. The car is incredible. It is smooth quiet and

very quick on a small track. Everyone at our meeting was very impressed.
