Dan I have a fool proof way of insuring you get back the motor you send in. Especially the arm. Without opening the motor up. I would give it to you on here but it's top secret and I'm not sure you have the clearance. PM me.

What surprises me is that anyone is surprised by any of what's been discussed here. I have been to two Retro East events and after having a good time (somewhat muffled by dismal performance), plan on attending some more. Being one with 50 years on-and-off racing slot cars and a tendency to keep eyes and ears open, the actions, statements, and remarks of several fellow racers led me to conclude that there was the usual state of motorsports affairs in place. That is to say that there were things that worked and things that didn't, and folks that were there for a good time and folks that were there to kick some posteriors. All that is familiar and normal.
Now we are talking about a practice that appears to have been sanctioned by one member of the IRRA BOD and not by any of the others. A few moments thought and the causes of some subsequent events seems rather obvious. When talking about interpretations of rules we are often treated to various renditions of that tired old line of crap about how it isn't cheating if you don't get caught. If that's an accepted line of thought is it any wonder that what is essentially an 'honor system' wasn't honored?

I just had a thought that may not be original (and I'm not scrolling the thread to find out): I'm wondering how many of us actually think this way in our racing, and how complacent we would be if the phrase were applied to, say, our spouses. Or our bankers. Or our elected officials.
Or our children. Is this a worldview we want to pass along?
"Awwww now you're distorting it, you're takin' it too serious - " Um, no. Ethics is a sliding scale on a slippery slope, to be sure, but a sequential, connected one; and one that tips easily.

So Duf, are you saying that it hasn't and we hobitists Can save the world ?
Motor racing is not all that much like real life ethics.
Drivers (generally speaking) pack their own parachutes.
Racing on slippery ski slopes might be closer. Skydivers... see above.

Sorry to hear that Mill, I was hoping you would have a chance to see how the "other half lives". I would bet money that well before that time, the dust will have well settled on this and everyone will have moved on to the next "tragedy". I wouldn't cancel your hotel reservation just yet...
This isn't the first controversy the IRRA BoD has had to deal with, and won't be the last. They've dealt with other issues in a manner that best serves the majority of the racers so I'm sure this will be the same.
