Don, you can use that contraption to grind steak into chop meat Put a burger on for me
Here is where I am so far. She ain't too pretty but remember I am using mostly all used stuff to construct it. Still fiddling with fitting the body. The back will be raised just a bit from where it sits now after I devise a body mount. You can see where I used the grey primer as a guide coat to try and get a little better fit on the body panels. Would have been easier if I started with a mint kit but I love to torture myself. Windows received the first coat of tint. The rear wheels have been switched and I am using a set that were glued 40+ years ago by J&J Raceway in Cali. It was the home of many slot drag meets and I thought they would be appropriate here. I am a little concerned about such a short wheelbase. It may not get down the track so good. I will have to see.

That body looks veeeeeery familiar, if my memory isn't fading as fast as I think it is.

Don, That one might not make it through Customs and then you could get a knock on your door.

Joe Lupo,
From your post #107. It was a model train motor by Athearn of CA in the 1950's and early 1960's. Here's one on ebay for sale now. Although they are missing from this unit, there were 4 rubber bands that connected the extending drive shafts to the 4 pair of wheels (wheelsets) of the locomotive.

Little bit more messing around and the motor now fits snugly in between the chassis tubing rails The bottom 2 motor screws not only bolt the Padlock together
but also bolt the motor solidly into its' mount.
In other developments it's rumored this DC85 with new shiny 6V arm is destined for a rail Dragster..... Stainless steel machine screws, epoxied BB's and a visit from the dremel wire wheel & it's pretty much ready to be bolted into the "as yet" to be designed rail ..

Very clever chassis design on the inline Paul, nice job!
Hey Joe, thanks for that photo: I've got a couple of those motors and wondered what they were from... they're sometimes confused with the Lindsay, but maybe that was just one of the motor styles of the time...

I received a request for a rule 'adjustment' by a confirmed entrant on the overall length from 10.5 inches to 11 inches.
Note:
Any valid objections will be considered until 4/23/14, after that the rule will be changed by defaulting to the latitude of the promoters option
Reason for request:
To avoid cutting up an existing rail car.

News notes:
More vintage motors coming in as race prizes ... Thanks Mikey D. !
Confirmation from Bill Pinch that the local Pro Drag racers and the expert videographer are all lined up and 'good to go'.
Are there any objections, questions or comments on the overall length rule change?

It's really all about the show and in remembrance of Gene's contribution to the hobby.
Winning is secondary to having some fun.
Oh yeah ... winning is fun ...

Thanks guys!
Talk about polishing a turd with chrome paint .... that body pull is 'absolutely terrible' but I sure like the shape and lines of the car..
Really hard to photograph and it does look somewhat better in person.

Hey guys,
I prepared my "exhibition" cars for the drags. It had been a few years since they last ran so I ground the tires round again, spray cleaned all the important parts and a re-oiled all the bushings.
I'm planning on sending a total of three cars.
Here are shots of each for the "car show."
First up is my 1940 Chevy truck. Powered by a Pittman DC706. A clunky slug that should run in the low to mid 2's.
Next up is my Beverly Hillbillies truck, nicknamed the "Bodine Brawler." ( you may recall it was actually owned by Jethro's mom Pearl Bodine) Powered by a wimpy Ninco 1/32 scale motor, should run mid 2's
Lastly is my Backwards Bug. Front motored with a Parma 502 with a driveshaft. This was built for a special bug class we were trying to put together, but it didn't catch on. No wheelie bars allowed, so lots of weight on the front end was necessary.
The bug body looked more aerodynamic to me mounted backwards. Should run about 1.4's. The car ran faster with the drop arm taped solid so it stayed that way!
Let the fun begin
