Well thank you guys, I'm really glad you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Next proxy? How about B-cans in 1969 this time! huh? Huh? HUH???
Did you know that in the Model Car Science - USRA - LA Championship series held between Jan and July 1969 they ran 6 races. Two sports car, two GT car, one GP and a Stock Car race? In that six month series the chassis were both end bell drive and can drive. The chassis designs evolved from 4-rail per side motor box to 3 rail non-motor box to 2-rail, plumber on the 1 1/4" arm to hand cut sheet steel. There were more than a dozen different bodies used in the mains. The motors varied between Mura 2-hole A-cans, Mura's just introduced B-can, cut down Green cans (Mura A-cans cut down to fit Champion magnets, ie, the precursor to the C-can) and talk of the Champion Orange Picker just becoming available.
Just say'n

Wow Rick , that sounds a real mixture of chassis & motor tech in that race series! Got any scans/pics of some of the cars entered?
If this ended up the next cars I'd definitely be jumping in the deep end ! Got a few motors/parts & chassis bits that could possibly be cobbled together

I've got all the hard copies of Mike Morrissey's Model Car and Model Racing Journal but they are SO fragile. Thank goodness I loaned them to Steve Okeefe who painstakingly scanned every page of every issue. Furthermore, he indexed all the info! You can just point and click to go to each race report, manufacturer ad, how-to article, whatever you like.
I'm using these DVD's to research the MCS - USRA series mentioned above. They are available here:
I've been wanting to build an angle winder for some time now.......... before I forget how! I think this early 1969 series might just be the ticket. If I were to go a bit later than this series I could run any body I like as long as it was a McLaren Mk8. After the Mk8's the aero bodies took over.
Anyway, Paul, invest in the DVD's. You won't be disappointed

Have never scratch built one of these anglewinder beasts before (bolted one together with motor etc) just never actually created one!
So those Motor boxes etc look intimidating Will have to gather what bits I've got & ask for advice on what bits to use!!

Steve O and I, among others, have done several construction articles that might help.
Will have to gather what bits I've got & ask for advice on what bits to use!!
When you get the DVD's, start with reading the race reports. Then you can research manufacturer ads, how-to articles, etc that fit within the race series dates.
Model Car Science covered two sports car and one GP car races. I don't know of any available scans of those. I'll most likely scan and post them at some point.

Paul, one of these DVDs has a Bryan Warmack article on building a jig for bending these motor boxes.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

A '69 Car Proxy? What track would this be on? Now, that could be entertaining. . .

Motor boxes were only used early '69. By later in the year some builders were moving away from them by using half rails.
Dennis, nothing is set, we are just talking. But logic suggests some sort of swoopy track don't-cha think?

Cheetah is home safe.
Great packaging, no DEA agents came with it..
That was fun and more of a challenge than expected to not use any solder (exept for lead wires at motor end).
Thanks to Rick, Steve and Rodney this all turned out great. WTG. Congrats again to all those who entered.
170 grams...
It was 1966.
