IF YOUR NAME IS MATT, YOU HAD A GOOD WEEKEND!
LIKE US ON FACEBOOK (PLEASE!)MELBOURNE, FL - (19 SEPT 2014) - (he drag racing) Car count was solid yet again this week and for the third straight week it was a Lewis who was best off the line in the first round to take the light money. Matt's .006 was good enough to get the "Big Check". Matt went on to fill the semis (all four cars) - I believe that's the first time it's been done at TheRaceway. Congratulations to Matt on a perfect night!Saturday night it was another Matt who pretty much dominated the racing side of the RAY SNODGRASS MEMORIAL PROXY RACE (or, more specifically Matt Bowmans CAR). We qualified the cars Friday night while the Drag Races were in progress. Kenny Snodgrass ran each car for 30 seconds with the best single lap determining starting position. Matt Boman's HCX #8-M was .2 seconds quicker than the next best car with its 2.397 fast lap.Saturday afternoon we gathered 8 of the very best Oval racers in the county to drive the cars which came from Illinois, Mississippi, Germany, Switzerland as well as local entries from Bob Israelite, Kenny Snodgrass (Ray's Son) and Matt Boman.BEST APPEARING judging was first with Kenny's Blue #22 getting the most votes. We then ran a "controlled practice" session where each driver had 30 seconds with each car to get a feel for each machine and to see if we could shake anything loose and make any necessary repairs or adjustments before the race. The drivers drew lanes and, of course, the driver would stay on his lane as the cars ran through the rotation. Lane assignments were as follows: Red - Matt Boman, White - Steve Bowman, Green - Dennis DeMole, Orange - Thomas Holland, Blue - Kenny Snodgrass, Yellow - Terry Tawney, Purple - Bob Rondinone and Black - Lee Fish. After 18 minutes of racing, it was the 8-M of Matt Boman who put a lap-a-segment on the field to get the win. The Empire Racing #2 Blue Car (out of Chicago) was runner up with the Snodgrass Family #22 just edging the Ray Price's Gold #8 (also from Chicago) for third. The Boman #8 also recorded the best segment of the race (38 laps) with Lee Fish driving the car on the black lane. Best race laps were recorded by the 8-M with Bob Rondinone at the helm on Purple, the Orange Simoniz #4 (also Bob on Purple) and the Green Empire Racing #0 (Lee on Black). Each car ran a best race lap of 2.359. Paul Wolcott's Schaefer Gears #12 was the only other car to go under 2.4 (2.360), but had a few mechanical hiccups relegating it to 12th place (all cars were running at the finish).Great job by all the builders and a big THANK YOU to the drivers who volunteered a big chunk of their Saturday afternoon to carefully guide each entry through hundreds of race laps.
