Location: Eddies' Slot Car World, Vallejo CA
Date: September 13th, 2014
Doors open at noon, 1st race at 2 p.m.
Fees: $5.00 per entries - (Entry fee paid to track owner)
Track: 1/4 mile. Power 16.2 volts. 1 cap.
No glue on track and house controller will be used

GENERAL RULES:

 

Note: These are based on rules from 1963, found in a June 1963 Model Car Science Magazine. Some classes have been combined to keep it simple.

 

All entries to be powered by "open frame" or "padlock style" motors. Bonner motors okay.

Stock type period correct motor magnets only.

 

Motor examples:

 

 

 

No functional wheelie bars.

All four wheels must be able to roll and touch the track when the car is sitting on a test block.

No vacuform bodies other than for D-Dragster class.

Minimum tire size is 1".

Driver figure required (at least torso and head). Dragsters could have just driver head.

Roll bars on open cars required.

Maximum tread width is 3 1/4".

Period looking cars are encouraged. This is for fun. We are not going to freak out if your car has a jet flag because this is all that you have, for example.

CLASSES:

S-Stock

1/24th and 1/25th scale. Stock or mildly customized and must run full street equipment. No re-working of wheel openings other than mild trimming of front or rear areas where body curls inward. American production cars 1965 and older.

Example is the red 1962 Pontiac:

 

 

 

G-Gas

 

1/24th and 1/25th scale. American production cars 1965 and older. Cars must have at least one bumper. Fenders could be trimmed to clear tires. Cars to retain headlights and tail lights.

Examples are the Falcon, black Chevy and the blue Willys:

 

 

 

 

 

SC-Sports Car

1/24th and 1/25th scale. 1965 and older production sports cars and specials like Scarabs are allowed.

Example is the Red Cobra:

 

A-Altered

 

1/24th and 1/25th scale. Coupes or sedans or roadsters 1965 and older. Cars may be chopped , channeled or sectioned. Fenders are optional. Plastic engine detail encouraged.

Example is the green Hot Rod:

 

 

D-Dragster

1/24th and 1/25th scale. Entries must have some form of body around the driver's cockpit. Fenders optional.

Example is the silver dragster:

 

1/32 Scale Dragster Class

Entries must have some form of body around the driver's cockpit. Fenders optional.

1/32 Scale Other Than Dragsters

Non-dragster cars 1965 and older.

The name of the event has been changed, apologies have been made and now it's time to build and race some fun vintage drag cars. I've cleaned up the thread so we get on to fun the stuff

Is there some way we can call the races  "East Coast and West Coast"  or  "Spring and Fall" or something and keep everyone satisfied?? It could almost be an ongoing series if it got a little traction (no pun intended). If not, that's OK too, I'm just tossing stuff out.

 

It might raise some issues if we wanted a single set of rules. I like very simple rules, because you just can't run to the track to get this stuff.I also like the body-based classes because the cars look very nice. I do know that we might be able to agree on something if we keep it simple and reasonable.

 

An example is that it might be tough to get some of my cars down to 3" width because of the particular rims, tires,gears and axles that I have on hand. I am done hunting down crap on Ebay, thank you.

 

Anyway, this is just my .02. I hope to make it over to Eddie's if I don't have any conflicts.

Not definite but maybe able to accelerate a Dragster build in time Will have to talk to the design g33ks ! & consult the spares situation.

Are resin shells ok?

Will the classes be racing separately or all against all?

BoxerDog. To answer your question, we realy, realy encourage vintage wheels and tires, but if you or other racers don't have some at hand, then modern wheels and tires will be allowed. But I would realy prefer seeing original equipment.

 

SlotStox53: The plan is to run cars in each of their classes, I'm working on finding some kind of trophy, if I do, then we might have a run off (bracket race) of each class winner. Not set in stone, will keep racers updated if I can pull it.

What I will use is the ET from the final run in each class to set for the bracket race to get an overall winner. (If we do that)

Any word as to what works better on the strip @ Eddies? Or is it pretty much equal between vintage sponge & urethanes?

SlotStox, the track will be cleaned, no glue except for the shut down.

We've had no problems running old tires. I don't think the material

for the tires will make much of a difference.

 

 

I will check with a few racers tonight and get back to you in the morning.

I spoke with Rodney about the "cleaned track" last night. He said the surface was similar to a spray glued track. He also said that the urethane and vintage sponge tires like "Germans" worked fine.

Wow David that is one sweet rail! ! Just some random picture or do you know of it?

BoxerDog, cool rail, somewhere's on my site I have pics of the original rails some of the old timers ran. That looks like an old timer for sure. Last year I spoke with Manny Maldinado, he had the fastest rail at some I think 65-6 meet, he made his rails out of Magnesium, it sure looks good. He still has it after all these years.

Rule Change:

 

maximum tread width 3-1/4"

 

Why? Because Rodney measured the width of various standard early Ford coupe and roadster models he has and with 1/2" wide tires the track comes out wider than 3".

My "Rods and Rails" spec 'Valiant Ghost' is not legal for this event.

I am considering a hard body build based on car count entries per class.

... I want come and put a whoopin' on the whole S-Stock class...LOL

The VeeDub is most definitely not legal either so like you contemplating a hard body build ... Trying to decide what class as I can't possibly hope to build one for all the classes
