Thanks DVan, I'd love to take credit for the roof chop but it's as the resin body came :good:

Just a body I had got & thought it would be a good base for a build .

Some question keep coming up:

Q: My main concern is rear tires. Do they need to be vintage rubber?
Do the rules allow new rubber on vintage wheels?
A: Modern rubber is fine. Even th urethane repop tires Rick talks about are really modern tires.  Modern wheels are fine too.  The rules do not state that vintage rubbber is required.

Q: Does a closed car with tinted windows need a driver?
A: Driver figures required, at least torso and head other than dragster at least head.

Q: Is there a track to body height requirement? ( Gasser Class )
A: No track to body height requirement.

Q: Are nerf bars acceptable as a bumper?
A: No. On Slot Blog, there is a picture of the blue Willys rear tube bumper.  Should have a tube bumper or stock bumper.

Next, this week I was going to update the Proxy page, now I will need to know whos' entering this proxy and how many cars you're going to enter. If possible, email me or post your car picture on here and give me permission to put on the Proxy page.

Thanks.

I "should be " entering  :good: Hopefully with 2 cars... although right this minute there's no real good pictures of either car as of yet. Except for the bare Beetle chassis and the chop top body that's already on here a couple of posts up.  Chassis work on the chop top is ongoing but really not worth posting pictures as it ain't much progress yet :laugh2:

As soon as there's any tangible move forward in either will post pics ASAP & you can post them up :good:

Unless you want the Beetle chassis now?

Regarding the minimum tire size of 1" , is that purely for the rears? Or does that count for both fronts & rears? Just making sure before I get set on certain fronts :good:

Cool thanks :good: TIme to go revise what front's I'm gonna grab/use .

Was going to use a modern 1/16 axle wheel that looks really similar to the old spindle mounted 10 spoke magnesium wheels that were run a lot on the Altereds. But only measure around .820" ish with tires.... .decisions decisions ..... :wacko2:

First 2 ready for test and tune. Willy's running a Kemtron Mustang in a slightly modified Kemtron chassis. The Fiat is a Hubbly with a Pittman 65 in a Dynamic chassis. (Yes it has a driver ) I'll be trying different wheel/tire combinations...Vintage verses modern. Neither car has added weight but I'm sure that will change. I'll report back with testing results.

They will be coming from this selection!

The testing didn't go as well as I'd hoped. Way to much GRIP with the modern tires I tried. The Willy's was a total mess, even with weight added to the front it wouldn't stay in the track. Changed to a harder and narrower tire and it ran good but still carried the front end pass half track before setting down. Looked cool but to much air time. The Fiat wasn't as bad as the Willy's. Added weight helped but slowed it a bit. Sounded like it was still pulling at the finish line, a gear change may be needed. I'm leaning towards the vintage tires for these 2 cars. Like someone mentioned earlier in this thread "A little wheel spin is good".

Will be working on a dragster next, updates to follow.

Great looking builds I've seen so far, keep'em coming!!!

Hiline, good selection, you should be able to get a couple of good one for the proxy race...

BillB, have you tried to say *tape the guide arm, they've done that here while testing, seemed to work.

*They locked the swing arm with electrical tape when they tested.

Sorry the test didn't go so well Bill , sounds like what the guy over on Bracket500 found with the fibrewinder he tested without wheelie bars ... waaaay too much grip from the modern sponge even with the wheelie wheels he added and a fully weighted drop arm it still popped out the slot!

Look forward to seeing what Dragster you end up getting ready :D

I tried limiting the drop arm to 1/2" travel, still popped out. Locked up... worth a try.

NZ Mark sent me some of those sponge tires he used on his fiberwinder. They are the softest foam tires I've ever seen, self sticking.

Maybe even try some of the modern urethane tires ? may not be as grippy/soft as sponge, certainly wouldn't be as bouncy I would of thought.. The modern urethane will be going on the chop top '32 whereas the Bug will still have on the German sponge it raced on in Florida :)

The Dragster is an aluminum frame,  Now I was polite and didn't show all the stuff  I was rummaging through ( that I've collected over a few years) So I'm not sure which might be a K&B frame and which are the repos from a Gent that's been discussed here previously. As you notice in this photo there are several  aluminum frames 3 are same length, but the others are long er even though they are of same design. The one on  end is the longest ! It has a sick motor ( poor magnet field?).  If interested Ill post all the photos.

Here are some of the other cars I was evaluating;

The kiemtron SW car motor is dead but I have 3 Kemtron Mustangs to replace with, The little Black Tyco (?) Motor car, has an issue that who ever had it messed up the brushes, It looks epoxied and balanced, so i may be seeking help on that one, The DC65 Car 2nd from right needs the small plunger and  spring for motor.

Are you allowed to use rewinds in Super Stock, or is it like R&C Rules where that would be a no?

DVan, my apologies! I though I had this tagged so I knew when someone  had a post to it. All these cars were eBay purchases.

Both the cars on the right of the above photo are powered by DC65 Pittman motors, DVAN here are some pics for you;

That's the best I can give you on a close up, Like a Kemtron Chassis kit rear end with added body mount?

As you can see also I have a problem with this one, I broke one of the small spring retainers when trying to remove them, someone had placed a larger spring in to hold brushes and it was to tight! Binding actually! HELP!!!

Gator Bob, the other car also has the DC65 Motor (this one has BBs) I think both have 6v arms. It runs strong and we are hopping to put a Stock Dodge body on it for race. (The aluminum strip removed, it wasn't attached anyway.)

Foamy sorry not to get back to you sooner, I just got a reply from Rodney.

The rules are simplified for the proxy race. For all classess use wind or rewind.

This event is for fun and there is no prize money.

Hiline thanks for the pics, I've looked for those adjustable "Eye hole screws with nuts" that

hold the rear end to the motor, I can't find any, BTW does any one know what they're

called?

I'm still on the drawing board on how to mount the rear end to the motor, but I think I'm

going with something similar to the top picture you're showing.

Thanks for posting pics....

SlotStox For Your Information, after the proxy race some of the racers at Eddies' are talking about racing brackets, with vintage cars, this will includes can motors... In case when you come up and want to race some of yours if you have some.

This is only for racers at the track that day, no mailed/sent ins.

To be able to race the Florida entry "Inch Pincher" in this Proxy it needed a hard body , so a Tamiya 1/24 kit was obtained & arrived at the workshop.

With around 1/8 - 1/4" longer wheelbase the chassis needed to be streeetched somewhat . After a quick session with the iron the raced chassis was able to slide underneath it's new clothes ! :laugh2:

Riggen front wheels matching the rears were used instead of the Mila Miglia magnesium fronts from Florida, along with the soft rubber tires sourced from the Tamiya kit look great and clearly fit the 1" minimum diameter :D

Mucho work still to do like tune the Padlock, new lead wires, adjust the brush spring etc... and paint  the new & hopefully "improved" bug will be ready for September.

Now to choose the color and get this baby finished. ( chop top is well on the way to being finished too)
