BEAUTIFUL

We have chassis!
All wheels clear the fenders, so time to start scratch building a suitable interior for this Bug!
Since this is a beach bug... I think it needs two occupants and maybe even a surfboard rack?
What'cha think?
Jarius,
This is looking great and the Ortmann rears are fantastic. Stance and overall look superb! Any progress on this project?

Matt, she is so close.
Interior got too detailed and I lost interest in painting it.
Body is painted and roof rack constructed to hold a scratchbuilt surfboard.
The short answer is I got bogged down on details.
But hoping to get the car into the mail to the new owner middle of this month so... final pics soon.
I also started ANOTHER brass chassis for yet one more car in this series. It's on the jig now, body painted and I even added head and taillights with a brake light feature.

LOL that is why I stopped building model cars, I just could not stop with the details and would mentally bury myself. 2-3 years to finish a model just became too much.
I actually found this site because of you through the Model Cars Magazine forums.
Last question - Is that a Dubro body?

Not Dubro, but very close. There are some major differences between the two. I suspect Lancer but... not sure.

Finished another one just yesterday morning. But been working on this one for quite a while. Customer sent me a body already painted and said build me a heavy chassis and install a lighting kit. The body is a Russkit Bizarinni Iso Grifo and the motor he wanted mounted was a 26D rewound by H-Power (John Havlicek).
He said something about an anglewinder design... but left that up to me. Just wanted it to handle well for a race coming up this fall.
The chassis ended up being a sidewinder only because that fit best under the deep Russkit interior and I just happened to have a sealed Dynamic sidewinder motor bracket in the package itching to get out on the track so I started with that.
The weird offset is to provide for gear clearance.
Chassis is actually a full floppy pan plumber. Except that the plumber flex is sprung only by the wire "U" frame. No hinge.
I think I nailed the stance thing. Wish I had painted it... I would have added a ton of other details. But I hate changing someone else's art unless it is asked for.
I did add a full head and taillight system as per the request of the customer. The details of the installation will have to wait as I used this example in a future article for SLOT CARS MAGAZINE and should be out in Issue #3.
So stay tuned for that.
Wheels are Russkit re-pops with Al Penrose inserts.
Motor by Havlicek.
Gears by Cox.
Front tires by AMT trued by me.
Rear tires are "Indy Grips" silicone trued by me.
Guide is Jet Flag.
That's all folks!

Cal Look bug is finally done and ready to post.
I did not cut this body as the first few pictures in the thread will attest to. Else, I would have left more material to cover the brass. But... it doesn't look too bad.
Body is not Dubro but Lancer as I have a Dubro here and the two are different in many ways.
Surfboard is carved from spruce with styrene skeg's and a resin coating.
Guide Cox.
Front tires E.J.'s.
Rear Tires some sort of silicone.
Rims are Russkit Repops via Electric Dreams.
Chassis hand build.
Crown gear Weldun.
Motor is a stock Mabuchi.
Inserts something I cut from model car rims.
Body unknown.

Finished another one.
(Almost)
Ralph likes to send me stuff to play with. Most of the time it's a collection of bits and a body.
This time a John Havlicek rewound 26D and a previously painted Porsche 956 body.
Not sure who painted it... but Ralph also sent a slot car lighting kit and the painter painted over the head and taillight lenses.
At any rate, the first step was building a chassis that would fit the body and hold all the bits together.
Brass is pretty thick at .048.
Floppy pans and plumber attached to the tongue.
Front axle is an Iso held on by the hinge tube in front of the bite bar.
Most rod is .062 for strength. Almost no flex in this one.
WB is 3 7/8"
Guide lead 1/2"
Track F 2 3/4"
Track R 2 5/8"
Most of the dimensions are weird in order to fit the body.
Just like a slot car kit... ;-)
Chassis assembled below.
The additional power connector is for the lighting kit.
I had a bit of a problem with that which I will explain below.
Lighting kit was produced by Eicker and the I.C. board doesn't match the wiring diagram.
I used one of these before and successfully wired it up, but this board is different.
Email was returned and the web site now defunct.
Guess they are out of business.
Ralph says send what I got back and he'll figure it out the electronics.
Here below I have installed the LED taillights in the kit and added a connector from NORVAC so the body can be taken completely off the chassis.
Before installing the LED's tho, the body had to be cleaned of paint so the molded lenses would look clear.
I also had to make front headlight buckets from warm styrene plunged over a round object, cut and glued in.
Rear taillights were glued in with epoxy mixed with red clear paint.
Once wired it should look pretty nice.

Wheel rims Russkit repops.
Front tires from some model car kit trued up to 1" dia.
Rear tires silicone casts from eBay trued up slightly to 1" dia.
Wheel inserts from BWA.
Finished and ready for the post office.
Body was further detailed with numbers, panel lines, exhaust pipes and further interior paint adding to what the original painter (maybe Ralph?) applied.
Doesn't look too back and during a LeMans race should look great!

Got a new one to add to this thread.
Received an old molded (Probably Pactra) Mustang 1966 Shelby GT body with a Dynamic chassis and motor.
Also sent were a cool set of Ulrich wheels and Revell rubber with the question: "Can you finish this project?"
Well, the first step was to make a body mount from a sheet of .032 brass. From there it grew to this...
Interior was constructed from sheet and strip styrene including the dash pad and front seats.
The driver is a much modified Tamiya static figure.
Finished chassis is attached to the pan via three screws on the bottom. The motor, wheel spinners and guide are all Dynamic bits.
And the finished car.
Black color is enamel and the gold Parma Faskolor. The chrome trim was painted using a Molotow liquid chrome pen.
That's all folks!

Very nice looking car Jairus! The black paint with gold strips reminds me of the Hertz Mustang Shelby of the '60s. Some were blue & white, some were black & gold.
