Busted!! Guess I'll have to replace them with some 50 year old string!

Thanks Paul - very exacting standards, and that's a good thing. Too bad it's so far away!

Glad to see that slot car racing is alive and well in the USA. It was all the rage up here in Canada in the early 1960s, then had a resurgence in the early 2000s, but there are still local spots where you can race if you look for them.

Heck I'm miles away too Jim , that's the beauty of the Proxy racing . Post off your cars and they're driven by "proxy"

I'd love to race my own cars down the Florida strip but it just ain't gonna happen any time soon.

I thought at first it wouldn't be as exciting or fun as in person but I'm very pleased to report it was an amazing experience :D :good:

Oh, so that's what "proxy" means! But I not sure what it means to "post off" my car. Perhaps it means to race it at a local drag strip? I live in southwest British Columbia, and to my knowledge there are no to-scale facilities anywhere! Last one closed down about 10 years ago. I'll take another look around though - there's got to be one around here somewhere. Thanks Paul!

Hi Jim,

Here are two links to a Proxy Drag event held last summer for you to check out. The "Results" link shows all the cars in the different classes:

Thanks Rick, appreciated! Do you "post off" any of your cars to the US for proxy races?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim.

You bet. I was thrilled with my Cobra winning the Sports Car class and being the third fastest car overall beating all but 2 of the cars including all out rail dragsters: :dance3:

It's fun stuff, give it a go :)

Thanks RIck, that's a beautiful car, very clean and well constructed. 1.473 ET @40.06 MPH is incredibly fast!

I built something quite like this back in 2004, but at a 1/32 scale.

DSC_0131_Shelby Cobra 427 resized_50.jpg

The body is from a Revell/Monogram model kit, the chassis was an old Monogram brass job, and the motor was a vintage orange Parma, a real screamer.

DSC_0134_Shelby Cobra 427 resized_50.jpg

I once took it down to the local drag strip just before it closed down, and ran it a few times. The only car I've ever managed to race on an actual scale strip. It ran like a hot damn, in my estimation somewhere between 2-3 seconds. It was so fast, a guy watching called over the owner to see it rip down the track. His only comment was, "The dragsters are faster." That was a compliment, coming from him!

Too bad there's no bracket for this car at the proxy races!

We had a 1/32 scale class at our Proxy.

I have a few 1/32 drag projects in the works. One thing though, the drag proxies are (thankfully) limited to the "non-can" motors.

Point taken RIck. I guess my 1/32 "can" car was kind of off-topic anyway, but thanks. Good luck!

"May not ship to Canada." If I offered him $1,199, I wounder if he'd ship to Canada and include shipping and handling? Nah, he'd have to draw a line somewhere... :to_become_senile:

Actually, I did offer him $1,199, and he said he'd take it and ship to Canada, BUT I'd have to pay the $60 duty.

He's got another one for sale, this one is only $1,500 and comes without motor, gears or rear wheels / tires... must be a museum piece!

Hi again Bob. At first I thought you were kidding about the zip ties. But now I realize they wouldn't be allowed in the proxy races. I've read the rules for the upcoming vintage proxy drags on May 16, 2015 (registration closes April 16, 2015) at 1220 Sarno Road in Melbourne, Florida. Hope I've got that right. I also have non-black plastic guide flags which are not allowed. I think the deal breaker for me is that I have wheelie bars on both of my rails (see below). From what I know, drivers and roll bars are optional for the vintage rails.

Not sure where to go from here. Maybe I should check with Gator Bob http://slotblog.net/...3883-gator-bob/or send an email to Bill Pinch -bpinch1@bellsouth.net ?

I'm getting serious about this event, and I wouldn't want to have them disqualified before they're even put on the track! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim.

Sorry for duplicating the above posts, but the 'delete' option disappeared when I tried to remove the one without the photo. I eventually just left it in case it got triplicated or did not appear at all.

Hi Jim,

Those cars look like legal rails in the picture.

The slant guides might be dark enough to trip the timing lights, but ..... they might need some black Sharpie or foil. tape.

With the long flat droparm I'm thinking the slant guide angle might not be helpful on the strip.

You will enjoy proxy drag racing... :good:

They look fine from here :good: It could be my eyes , but I can't see any wheelie bars on either of those cool looking rails .

I can definitely attest to the enjoyment of proxy drag racing :D

Thanks Bob, black Sharpie on the slot guides sounds like a quick and easy solution - I'll do it. Not much I can do about the drop arm - I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. :sun_bespectacled:

Just to confirm though - do the zip ties really have to go?

It's not your eyes, it's my lack of understanding of the proper terminology.

I mistakenly thought that drop arms were "wheelie bars." A holdover from my misguided youth. :o

Thanks!

I ran both my rails that had drop arms (Canadian wheelie bars ! :wacko2: ) in the last proxy and as far as I was told they presented no problems to the cars running, Dont back out!!  Bring it I think we should dub you the "Alberta Clipper"
