Probably because...

(1) It would make any current body illegal since they won't have a clear spot to measure... that was one of the beefs people made and was considered in the final rule configuration.

(2) The measurement can be taken anywhere in the general area designated so a small spot steers the inspection to a particular spot .

(3) From what I have measured on my own bodies, the paint will only add about a thousandth of an inch... who really wants to add a lot of paint? Most guys barely have enough to make it opaque as it is .

(4) If i'm not mistaken, a "normal" amount of paint was taken into consideration.

You can beat this to death six ways to Sunday...

Or, measure the windshields. It would work on Can-Am and Stock Car bodies.

With exactly what sort of measuring device, John? Can't do it with a set of calipers nor with the fairly-inexpensive thickness gauge shown earlier in this thread...

Based solely on the one occasion you and I shared a house and drinks, I believe you're a reasonable guy. Why are you banging so persistently on this subject? Is your plan to continue to debate this rule change until your personal views are adopted? If that's the case, I believe you're going to be disappointed.

Please pardon the comment, but it seems to me to be pure hubris to insist so stridently that your individual opinion trumps the carefully considered opinion of the five BoD members, who, as I suspect you know, possess a wee bit of experience in this niche hobby.

I took exception to the comment from Joe about instigation. That's why I posted, Swiss.

Sorry, John, but when we see you on FB, making a gay slur about one of our approved motors, it's hard to believe you didn't get involved in this thread as an instigator.

BTW, in the same passage, you referred to the PD not being able to compete with the motor you slurred.

Cap Henry beat a whole bunch of Retro Hawks with a PD this past weekend at Tom Thumb.

I think "winning" qualifies as "can compete".

Hey now, I never said the motor was gay! I respect everyone's choice when it comes to motors. I am a "pro-choice" motor person.

I'm sure preceding "Hawk" with "Chicken", by Larry and yourself, was meant to be complimentary.

Is paint heavier than Lexan?

I'd assume taking a thin body and painting it with enough paint to make it thick enough would counteract anything you gain. I went through a period where I painted all my bodies one single color to save weight. Then I realized my very nicely painted bodies from Steve Koepp weighed the same amount.

I have a bunch of .010" bodies with .002" stickers on the side because they look cool, and those bodies have won races LOL.

Bottom line, Noose and every other tech guy works very hard, with Joe being one of the best. I'm sure no one is going to get screwed. I guess if you have too thin of bodies you better be looking for some Lexan-be-there at Walmart LOL

Motors are irrelevant here, but thanks for the compliment.  :)

So, questioning a rule and trying to have it improved is instigating? Why is there a resistance to measure clear Lexan (without paint) to ensure that the body meets the rule? That's why I still smell a rat.

I wouldn't necessarily call it instigating. But if I correctly understand your problem then I would call it petty and ridiculous.

If you have been stirring things up all this time over whether or not the thickness of the paint is to be considered in an overall body thickness measurement then get real. Since you can't run a clear body and the paint thickness is incredibly thin compared to the plastic itself why make a big deal about it.

What's next? Do you want our axles checked by a metallurgist to insure that they contain the proper alloys to be called "steel"?

Tell you one thing, Mike, you might want to consult your "metallurgist" when it comes to some of the brass that has been run in chassis, simulating spring steel...

Just sayin'...

Let's start over again, John. Your sticker idea won't work because of the concours guys and because a lot of guys already have lots of bodies painted. No one has calipers that will reach to the windshield, so what's your solution?

I don't know how you could be smelling a rat because the board got rid of the rat.

1) You don't race IRRA® yet you have more opinions than anyone and I can't remember the last time you ever gave one without some smart-*** remark.

2) SCRRA has the EXACT same problem with bodies so you might want to put your efforts into solving that problem.

3. May be you should get off the internet and come up with a non marking lipstick so it doesn't show on all the asses you are kissing

Joe,

You mean like the smart azz remark about how easygoing the SCRRA is? Not like other orgs. Then proceeds to make smart a$$ Nancy remarks about certain  IRRA® rules. We see how that "Easy going" attitude worked out, didn't we?

Mill,

As Joe said. Worry about your own house. You guys have some real, actual vermin runnin' around that require attention. Constructive remarks are welcome but you always seem to have some sort of demented compulsion to make degrading remarks. Get over it. Really!

I don't think that matters, Bob... unless you are looking to burn them at the stake or something.

Funny choice of words there, Mike... I was thinking beheading.
Burnt steak? How about a Bloody Mary to wash it down while you and your crew continue this witch hunt.

And I don't think anyone has been DQ'd but more than a few have been rejected at tech.

More should get DQ'd and their names posted on the 'terror watch list'.

You're a funny guy, Bob... HA, HA, HA.

And what "witch hunt" would that be? Oh... you mean the one where we just tightened up a rule that has been on the books for YEARS. Is that the one?? So you consider it a "witch hunt" when a existing rule is better defined to make it LESS open to subjective enforcement.

Sorry, I am kissing no ones ***, and the solution that adding tape out here and a minimum body weight for each class seems to be a lot better idea than your original post that you then rescinded after the outcries of so many racers.
