I put 7/8" dia. JK plastic hub 8767P, narrowed from the outside, to .600", on my Dynamic Dyna-flex 26D inline chassis.

The car has approx. 060" rear clearance, and handles real nice.

If you went with a sidewinder, you would probably need way bigger.

As a kid, with my solid rear, 26D sidewinder, I remember being geared 10-48, which in theory is a 1" dia. gear, hence the need for something at least 1.125".

If it's 3" hub to hub the sidewinders have lots of challenges, I had to use a threaded set-up and a threaded spur on the 1966 R&C proxy car.  The 26D SW frame might be more narrow than the 16D.

If 7/8' put's it a .060 that great. Let's use that as the minimum.

  • Rears 7/8" x 5/8" any compound or hub. Threaded, set screw or collar lock.
  • Fronts ...as small as Dynamic offered (5/8" ? )

With the flex rear the ride height for bigger tires can be done with washers.

Go Johnny, the GE would probably be wild fast on the strip, might be good on the oval if it has brakes.

We have a track issue that should be resolved in time.

From Bill Pinch:

I arrived at the store right at opening time Thursday to find the A/C drip pan had been leaking directly onto the Oval for several hours at least.  That meant the first nine feet of the drivers straight had soaked up enough moisture to make it un-salvageable (that's the bad news).  The good news:  one of two things will now take place: 1) Three sections of the track will be replaced and the entire track resurfaced or, 2)  The track will be replaced.  Either way, it's good news for our Oval racers and Birthday Party program!

The GE has gobs of brakes! You really have to gear it high (low numerically) for the car to be controllable - and that's on our short euro-tracks!

Modelville Hobby, one of the oldest raceways in the U.S., has agreed to host a leg of the Dynamic Challenge of 2015 proxy. Modelville owner Rich Payne will be the race director. Of coarse, we will need to sort out the particulars. Vintage tracks for vintage cars:

Don't think so, it won't fit the DC 85 motor frame screw pattern.

I cleaned it up ... 9 simple rules.

Proposed three track Dynamic Challenge rules.

Hillclimb 13.8v, Oval 11v and Drag Strip 14.7v.

  • 1.5 minute per lane on roadcourse and oval. (no-smoke)
  • Four drivers, 4 cars start and next four come in round robin, driver stays in lane and cars are separated by one so we can 'drift' in the corners and reduce carnage.
  • Eight cars max.
  • All cars will be judged for eligibility by the 8 entrants, with 3 pictures minimum and a list of parts used and posted here on Slotblog.

 Chassis:

  1. All original Dynamic parts including Cast chassis and OEM brass body mounts,re-pop brass parts allowed .
  2. The only thing that can be soldered is the lead wires and 2 body pin tubes.
  3. Modern Graphite guides required
  4. Any gear set.”period only”, 1970 or before.
  5. 1/16" track clearance F&R
  6. 3 1/4" max width

 Motor:

  1. Any motor configuration up to 1970 that is designed to fit the Dynamic motor carrier part # used.
  2. Open armature rule.

Body:

  1. Any body up to 1970

Tires:

  1. Modern or vintage.

Bob:

I would add a bit to the body rules, maybe say just Can-Am or LeMans Coupe?  If not you're going to have a bunch of "Thingy" type bodies.  Also, no add-on spoilers or diaplanes, right?

Hi Jay,

Thanks for stopping by.

You know I have high regard for Mr. Jay Guard. From the day I met you, your 'own built' chassis, Yellow Slick 7 team color fleet, cool collected persona .. the whole deal.

Mr. 'Flat Track' kicked my but on the highest banks in Florida.

Now first .... Nope no blowin' smoke here.

Would be great if you join in, build, drive or both.

Second ...  I would like to keep it open as many of the proxy crowd like Thingies, scale and even one off bodies. Check out the 2011 Dynamic Challenge tread to see the wonderful variety, guys even make their own molds and pull. There isn't that much room for 'creativity' on these screw together cars and the body shape is one the entrant likes vs. what the rule maker likes.

Third ... The Ti22 and Parma Lola bodies are legal. I know they both 'work good'.  I would think someone might want do an F1 or Indy style in-line car. Like the expression of the builder .... It's wide open. The antiquated cars and 3 track program being so varied at The Raceway aero won't be that big of a factor. Figure 6.5 to 8.5 second laps on Bill's Hillclimb. The 2011 'Dyn-Astro' car aka Marvin runs 8.8 on that track. it's "got aero" too...LOL

Now .. if we can get this going and hit the Purple Mile the body rule could-would-should and will be addressed.

The last thing ...... I want to see is eight Ti22 'corps de la semaine' or Parma's Lola lined up side by side.

As far as air 'disturbing' appendages  ... Diaplanes are fine if only used as 'body armor' and not visable.   Wings, (or one wing), rear spoilers, and exposed diaplanes ... I'm good with ether one, all or none...at all.

Those that will enter will weigh in. I'm going to go with the KISS theory and let's have some fun!

Thanks, Don.

Everybody wants to run the Sovereign, but  the Aristocrat is one cool track, exceptionally fun to drive. The double crossovers really messes with your mind. One second you're in the middle and the next you're in the gutter....

Ever try one with a steering wheel. Holy Cow.

They just recently removed an original  Aristocrat from The Race Place in NJ.

Phill, If we run all three ... is that how it was presented to the owner?

It seems the "pan rule" is extinct (Is that right?). So, run 'em if you got 'em.

Who is interested if I get Rick to re-pop some fixed or sloppy pans?

I believe it's the same one, newly renovated by Gary Gerding. It is smooooth.

The particulars need to be worked out, but I think all three are doable.

Approximately, when might the opening race happen?

Modelville's Aristocrat is the renovated former Race Place Aristocrat. The first Aristocrat I raced on was back in 1968 located in the basement of the Catholic church in Rockland, ME. Several Maine tracks in those days, including this one, still had the steering wheels. I never bothered  to use them, my MRC was more accurate.

Phil, I'm trying to make it simple and clear.

Yes, OEM or 'commercially available' re-pop brass parts.

Refer to Chassis rule #s 1&2

Yes, I would be interested in re-pops.

I don't want to lock in a track date until we see if we can get 8 entries and a few back-ups for those that fail in their commitment to enter.

For the Florida event I'm thinking December 2015.

At this rate I'm not optimistic it will happen at all in 2015.

Thanks guys...

I was just thinking about which motor carrier I want to use...was wondering if the Mabuchi 36 size sidewinder setup is a bit wide though? I also have a 26 size sidewinder setup...hmmm...

I guess I need to go back and look...are we building to 3" or 3.25" max width?

Since these cars might represent a car that you either built or wanted.

Not built to any race series specs.

Many of the repop bodies are wider than originals.

Getting a SW to 3" is 'tricky'

With that - 3 1/4" seems to be the logical answer.

Those un-tied doubles turned self tying winds have a tendency to just stop abruptly without smoke  .... ' check'n see if the back wheels can still turn" :laugh2:

John H. doesn't think the vintage silver wire is worth its weight in gold ....

Thanks Bob...

I have a pair of "previously owned" side pans, that someone had soldered the pin tubes into...now I won't need to remove 'em...

edit: is this correct? one of my concerns is about loose parts / pieces that can either fall off on track, in the heat of battle...or...during maintainence...this is one area IMO a little soldering should be o.k.(unless ya'll have a better way of retaining the pin tubes in the pans? I never liked the little screws into the brass method of mounting the body)

I also have a 17T of 23 ga. arm wound by Mr. H...so I guess I'm all set, huh? :D

On a slightly more serious note... ...I recall Prof Fate saying that a S16d is much like a '68 ish "work-alike" in perf. sort of wind...soooo...
