A masterpiece Rick; and thanks for showing that jig, Howie; appears to be very well used! I still use mine as well.

Now that we know it's not exactly the most accurate jig in the world... when you were building, did you also use a ruler or calipers to double check measurements, or just eyeball everything?

Came out rather nice.  :D

Now all you need is an Arco race to give it that "just raced" patina!

That jig has been through a  lot. The pieces moved so much you could measure and lock it down pretty straight if you measure also. Sometimes the crooked cars were the fast ones. LOL.

Howie likes it! :dance3:

Crooked were always faster. LOL.

I would not bet against that really being true!

Now all you need is an Arco race to give it that "just raced" patina!

I polish the chassis when I finally finish it and then leave it alone. If I keep my "piss fingers" off the bare brass it will take on a nice even patina over time. It can be wiped with a rag, blown off with air, or brushed with a soft bristle brush after running. It's the handling with sweaty hands that will cause the blotchy tarnishing ("piss fingers") that I try to avoid.

Howie.... :D ...

I need some help from you to put the car together:

1.  Are we using a different motor?

2.  Do you have a preference on the motor's color?

3.  Lead wires. Double thin wires per side?

4.  Do you like any of these wires?

Lead%20Wires.jpg

I also have some thin dark blue colored wire...

Double or triple grey Marklin train wire for sure.  :good:

Double gray for sure. Cox might be the stuff but either is good to go.

We are supposed to get an armature at least from Sandy. Waiting on him to get back from Cali. I think a silver can is the color but I want to see what he comes up with. Should be soon now.

Whoops! I thought Rick was asking for opinions as to what to use to finish up this project. And I jumped in without thinking he was asking Howie what he wanted to see.  Sorry...

I always knew that Howie was a great driver, but I never knew what a talented builder he was as well. :hi:

I stand corrected!

Rick has done him proud with the beautiful recreation.

It just doesn't get any better than that, thanks for showing, Rick. I love the blueprinted weights.  :D

3/32" body mount lift, wow ! :shok: Did they allow some droop in those days?

I think you should also have a copy of the coupe body Howie won with, for historical purposes. It was a period where bubbling and flaring the bodies was allowed and right at the time Dynamics wider ones were just starting to appear.

That Chaparral 2F body is probably the rarest of the Dynamic Handling Bodies. Howie managed to use the rarest of the Russkit and Dynamic bodies on the same car!  :shok: :laugh2:

I have a 2F from Patto's Place and it's not even close to the original. It's oversized and completely lacks any detail.

Rodney and I paid a pretty penny for an original Dynamic body and sent it to Victor of TrueScale in the hopes he would make a reproduction. That was several years ago...   :unknw:

Yup, and Howie's is the "first gen" version which is a bit under 3" wide and has scale-shaped wheel openings. That's probably why his original has the wheel openings flared.

Maybe it's time to rattle Victor's cage and see where it is? Seeing as he has the body and no pulls?

Amazing creation/recreation, Rick.  :D

Look forward to motor building time.

Hi Paul,

Victor is an artist with an artist's temperament. Rodney is a close friend and has been giving him "nudges" from time to time.

As for the motor build, I've got the motor below ready for paint:

It would be really cool to have a real deal arm or motor!

That's exactly why I mentioned the motor, remembering you had done that one but reading Howie talking about an armature from Sandy.

I used to flare some of my bodies with a hot spoon. It would be cool to come up with one of those Chappie bods.

Yes, it is. Possible solution is the Italian copy by Mini Dream; it is a back pour. Might be easier to find...

I'm pushing ahead with the Russkit Lola T70 Sports Car body, which we're very lucky to have for the project. After mounting it as low as I could, without having to cut off the bottom of the nose, the interior didn't fit. :dash2:

Mr. Soldering Iron to the rescue heating up the empty motor can to form the interior to it:

Ursaner%20Sports%20Car%2085.jpg

The result is, as Inspector Clouseau would say, a "bimp"..........that's a bump to you and me:

Ursaner%20Sports%20Car%2080.jpg

Here's the interior and motor detail ready to go. I also added a roll bar per ARCO rules:

Ursaner%20Sports%20Car%2082.jpg

Here's how she looks ready for Noose to work his magic in collaboration with Howie:

Ursaner%20Sports%20Car%2086.jpg

Ursaner%20Sports%20Car%2083.jpg

She's sitting down pretty low and mean:

Ursaner%20Sports%20Car%2081.jpg

Time to get her boxed up and sent off to Noose and hopefully Sandy will be back from Cali soon with good news about a motor...... :dance3:
