Chris,

When I quit I gave everything, cars, chassis, box, tools, controller, etc., to one of the little kids at BIR raceway and never picked up a controller or looked at a slot car until around 20 years later when Retro started.

Trying this Saturday for our next Hillclimb race in Melbourne. The last one was really good but alas I no longer have it. LOL.

4" wheelbase, .850" guide lead. Nine rails of .039" wire ground down to .035". Pans are .047". 49.4 grams.

Duffy F1 bracket cut to sit on top of the rails. And of course Duffy tongue. 102 grams complete with noose painted Parma Ti22. Should be a bit lighter with the HVR race tires on the rear.

Tested this Saturday. Ran well out of the box. Track was a bit slick. Ran the same times as my other two cars. Very good up the donut on Melbourne's Hillclimb. Needed some Kelly Retros which I did not have a big enough pair left to use. Can't get them down here in Florida.

So all in all car was good need to change motor and she's all set for next week.

O.K. now I see how you ground the rails, very interesting. Did you solder the rails all the way front to rear?

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

I like the feel of the rails soldered full length, plus after I scrape away all the extra solder I feel the flex will be more even side to side than not soldering all the way where you can't control the amount the solder flows between the rails.

Bob Emott taught me this and I have pretty much always did it this way.

How do you determine where to put the tape?

Thanks.

I just stick some always on the rails by the motor and if I have any left some on the rails up front. I think it deadens the wire same as like using brass rod rails. If the car has brass pans or a shaker plate I throw a piece on those also. No science to it, no right or wrong, as long as it is one there.

Something I wanted to try again. I built a "F1" style chassis with the fronts mounted to the pans in the first year of Retro. It was actually really good but was very heavy.

This one is still porky at 107 grams as set up, but if it works well I can make the next one much lighter. It is a standard Octopussy center section with the front wheels mounted F1 style. Trying it this weekend at P1.

Noose,

Please forgive an ignorant question, but could you give some details about the motor in the Aero car above. The resistors(?) are unfamiliar to me.
