Just a question with the way the main rails connect to the motor bracket is Caps center photo chassis legal by IRRA rules? I can see yes and I can see no.

Not trying to start a stink.

Thanks Mike

Eddie, I feel it is, the .062 rails completely connect with the 6 .039 rails. There's no rule saying the rails have to be one piece or the same size. When I do the next ones with bigger wire and less rails I'll put an extra bend at the end so that the rails have more overlap, but I figured .2 of overlap on this was enough.

Dennis, haven't run any of them yet, have a few to build though

The rule in question is this one:

3i. Wire or tubing rails must connect the front
and rear sections of the chassis. Using metal
strip for this purpose is not permitted. A rail is
defined as that which connects the motor
bracket to the front of the chassis.

I report you decide

Cheers

I don't think you had to do the overlap on the outer rails on this one, because the inner rails go from front bracket to motor bracket

If the inner rails are not soldered in the tubes at the front that is not true IMHO.

Taylor, Eddie is correct. The forks are not soldered into the tubes, so to be rules compliant the overlap was needed 😊

Here's a variation of the one I built in post 2798. Rail combination is .055 inner rails and .062 outer rails. This was changed to give the chassis a little more flex and drivability on Modelville Hobby's Sovereign. I used a .032 spacer for the guide tongue spacer instead of the .064. The center weight was re-designed too. Both of these changes moved weight from the front to the middle/rear of the chassis. Some of the weight I saved was added to the pans as these were made slightly wider. The end result was a race ready car at 106.7 grams. The one pictured came in at 112.6 grams which is perfect for the Sovereign.

Brass is all .032.
Center weight is .016
CR 1.380" motor bracket and guide tongue
15/16" guide lead
4" wheel base.

Nice builds Cap. Those twin .055 straight rails on the scratchbuild F1?

No uprights on the front of the axle? Don't back it into the wall. LOL.

Are you talking about the front or rear axle? The front axle has folded brass uprights as well as the wire uprights, the rear axle tube has .062" 90 degree braces on the outside of the bracket on each side. I can squeeze it between my two fingers and can't flex the bracket LOL.

Who crashes these days?
