Some Retro cars I have been building. This is what happens when you let a wing racer build Retro chassis's. this one handles OK

DSCF0118S.jpg

DSCF0117S.jpg

DSCF0120S.jpg

Note, the centre rails go inside the motor box and are bent up to support the axle tube, the outside rails do the same. Front section is 55 thou brass, total car without lead is 88 Grams, needs more work, centre rails are not stiff enough, might brace front of motor to inner rails to stiffen car up.

You can split them into 2 pieces if you want in the middle of the forward section (white spot in first photo). One piece will be hard, but it can be done.

A little bit at a time, I've completed my first second scratch chassis in 25 years..

..a CanAm D3, it is certainly not as "pretty" as most of the chassis displayed here. My lo-bucks operation has not yet allowed for the purchase of a tumbler to make it all clean and shiney. I have had to depend on a little judicious scraping, and the application of Comet with an old toothbrush.

Trust me .. this is a great deal better than the first attempt.

70 grams as shown here, it will spec out 105 - 110 with all the bits attached and a body mounted. Hopefully, I'll get everything attached and see how it works on the Angel tonight.

:D Beautiful build Bob!!!! No tumbler needed---just use some brillo and water in the sink and your chassis will take on a polished look. I usually clean mine as I build each step.

The latest Retro Coupe build is for Herman James. He will be jetting this car around the NorCal circuit shortly.

Hand cut M&M nose piece out of .040 brass
Cort guide tongue at .875 guide lead
Overall length is 4.75
3.9375 wheel base
Double .055 main rails
John Sinz .032 pans slightly modified (split as usual)
JK front wheels
Weighing in at 51 grams, raw chassis

I'll get this rolled out in the next day or so and have it ready for Herman when he comes down next weekend.

I finally found time to get behind the soldering iron.
This is a customer car for a class unique to Chicagoland Raceway, Retro Hot Rod.

It makes good use of some K & S .064 strips/chunks I had precut a few years back.
The middle 3 are just tacked on to the main .062 wire chassis rails with the thought
some bite could be tuned out by soldering them more solid and/or connecting them
to each other.

Here's the type of body that goes on the odd shaped chassis.

Here what the chassis looks like with the 1" + tires installed.

The last chassis I built was in 1986. I figured as long as I built the chassis that I would paint the body too.

I put this one together under the advice of Hershman. After I spoke to Ron I called Chicagoland and ordered some goodies!

It's not as shiny as most of them on here.

We'll see how it works next weekend. Thanks again Ron and Mike.

Nice build, BTW

This is my first retro car. And surely the first IRRA retro car ever built in Finland.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I built this chassis for IMCA's 'Retro Worlds' race. IMCA organized this race last spring in Belgium. Rear tyres in pictures are only for testing. Retro racing was really enjoyable. Maybe sometimes I build more cars.
