Is making the DooHickey Sandwich on the outside of the rail, where it's ultra-vulnerable, the huge mistake?

Is having this DISCUSSION in the GALLERY thread the huge mistake?

Gee, I'm stumped.

It looks like the first one's nosepiece doesn't have enough lift coined in enable the use of a regular guide flag. The second chassis seems to have a higher lift coined in. :)

I built a couple of cars for the R4 Stockcar race. I started with slick 7 brass and improvised.

One for me and one for Dave Mountz. Dave if you see this you'll need front tires and you'll need to paint up a body. I don't have any .812 fronts or I'd throw them on.

Very nice builds John!

I've taken the weekend to start a new project myself. This is the first of a two part build, one for me and one for Dale Yamashita. Next weekend I will be doing another Retro Pro for Gus Kelly and finally try to get my Hard Body Nascar completed for the Winged Western States. See below for a couple pictures.

:sorry: Oooh. I was thinking something Hardshell exciting. Something like that would look good under a Revell Datsun 510, being that is a 1/32 chassis, it's close to the correct size. . .

I also beefed up the .025 pans with a stiffening rib to make them more stout than .032 but lighter.

Hi Rick,
So? you got it to work!

Here's my latest hope-against-all-odds. Independently plumbered pans. 3 rails of .063" in a "z-rail" configuration. 74.9 grams as pictured. Weighed 116+grams built up minus body. I've begun lightening it but the drill ran out of juice; hope to get it down to 100 grams.

I misspoke. The chassis ALONE was 74.9 grams(not "as pictured")! :shok: Dremeled a big rectangle in each pan and drilled many holes.... but the built-up car minus body is STILL only down to just under 109 grams... looking at around 115 grams when it hits the track. Man, with as much brass as I removed, I thought it would have shed more weight. What's not obvious from the pics is that the nose piece is .063" brass(everything else is .032"); I wanted a nose piece that wouldn't bend on impact. Each side of the nose piece now has 2 large holes drilled in it. I don't have a pic yet of it all drilled out and cut up, but it's looking like swiss cheese now. I "may" be able to drop another gram or two by drilling more holes between the holes. There's lessons to be learned here, kids, and when I learn them, I'll let you know what they are. :laugh2:

That wide motor bracket was made by John Myers in New Braunfels, Texas.

Ok here is my latest 4x1. all rails are .055 the 2 inners on each side are soldered full length together. The outer rail is soldered 1 inch only to the front rails and side plate (.032) so it flexes up and down in the rear like a plumber.

Center plate is 1x1 .062
Usual floppies .032 . JK motor bracket. Thanks for looking ...............JERSY JOHN ;)
