Don't have any idea what size a Koford WX+ tire is as we don't run them, but thanks for the response.

Comes in several OD for wing, scale and other retro cars. WX+ is a select Wonder rubber hardness. Most GTP/GT12 are .770 or smaller.

Thanks guys! Looks like overall final drive ratio place to start is 3.75. This is for the people that don't run large tires. I usually run .660 to .700 hope this the other guys like myself.

Well since we are running a "spec gear" as well as tires--I just barely skin the tires out of the tube to maximize the size!! I didn't even know what size they came out at. Thanks for your help Tim--.760? I'm probably running 7.58!!

Tim -- Just FYI - If you are talking about the motor that threw the wire, which he posted on FB Thursday afternoon before the LMP race, …..I have that motor in my possession and the sticker is on correctly, as were all of the motors that were given to us by Roger for the Thursday night enduro. As I said, Craig put the motor in opposite of what most racers install them....with the sticker facing towards the rear of the car. Enough fake news!!!! Topic closed.

Again---just check the picture of the one he has on facebook! I have NO IDEA if it's the one that threw the wire. YOU keep saying that! Roger is the one that said the sticker was BACKWARDS!

Those of you playing around with this motor do you find it more of a torque motor or more of a high RPM motor. I will be racing this motor on what is essentially a flat track with spec tires (Alpha Soft Wonder on big full hubs) and a spec 13T 64P pinion. The motor is said to be able to reach 60,000rpm and yet it has very strong magnets which could provide excessive brakes. I'm leaning towards gearing it for the rpm and just running no brakes if the motor is that strong. The recommended gearing is 13x37 but the FDR can be changed with tire diameter. Maybe the recommended gear set with .720 diameter tires. Just looking for a little input. This motor is new to me.

How many Phoenix have you had go up in Smoke? How many Phoenix have you seen go up in smoke? for that matter how many Hawk 7 have you had go up in smoke. How many Hawk 7 have you seen go up in smoke.
Of the massive number of Hawk 7 sold what would you say the percentage of motors that go up in smoke would be? How about the Phoenix?

Rarely ever have I seen a can motor go up in smoke,. The brakes go away, they slow down and then the brush tab breaks and half the time they keep running.

Before American wound arms were available, we ran retimed Chinese 16D arms. I was in a traveling series on a king track at the time. The car ran great for a heat & a half. Then suddenly while in the doughnut, I got this big plume of white smoke. End of the day!

Torque: "yes"
High RPMS: "yes"
Flat track: based on what I see in our Go-kart class at The Dungeon, the Phoenix is the LAST motor I'd use.
Guys with less horsepower and smooth acceleration will motor right on past you.
Try one and tell me what you find

Paul, it's not my decision as to racing this motor on a relatively flat track it's the hand-out spec motor for the GTP class at the Flexi-Pro race in Durham, N.C. I plan on using my controller to try and make the motor conform to my driving abilities and track conditions. I'll let you know how I do.

Freddie, are you allowed to use a choke in this class?

"going up in smoke" doesn't have to be taken literally. It can mean that the motor dies, which is not to be taken literally either......

I finally got a Phoenix installed in one of my GTP cars. We had been running FK and Scorpion ProSlot motors. 155 ft Hill Climb on 12.6 volts geared 14/42 with .700ish tires . The good cars could run Low 4.5 to mid 4.4. Phoenix motor low 4.3 to mid 4.2. They have very very good brakes.
They also run very cool. Rockets through the twisty parts. Way more torque. Higher RPM, never just look at the way you need to gear them. Mine would be much quicker if I changed the gear from 3 to 1 to something around 2.8 to 1. Only draw back is they are 1 gram heavier then the Scorpion and FK, but who cares.
Good bang for the buck.
