Braids installed. Ride height adjustment is critical on this car. Eddie will fine tune it at the track, but I want to get it as close as possible before it leaves "The Ranch" :)

The Red Fox flag is a "cut-down", so it has lots of Koford bronze spacers stacked below, and an extra one above for fine tuning

Fuel caps, carb intakes, and brake lights brushed with enamel

Rust-Oleum quick dry paints worked fine. The body skirts are dark blue but look black in the photos. She dries overnight, then gets stickered, Noose interior is trimmed and ready to go, probably in the mail by noon. Los Angeles by Thursday, race on Saturday  :)

It looks fantastic! Depending on when it arrives I may be able to get it to the track before Sunday to make those final race adjustments.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Sharp-looking car, Pablo! Eddie will be proud to race it.

Do you know whether he'll race it this month, or next? I would think it would require some track tuning for the BPR flat track.

We can blame Don if it doesn't. He gifted the Tamiya Lola body to Pablo to get the whole ball rolling. If the car runs great, he deserves to get  credit too. :laugh2:  :laugh2:

I grew up watching these cars race back in the day. Nothing matches the thrill of 20 "Thunder Cars" on track at Road America, or Mid-Ohio.

TRACK TESTING AT BUENA PARK RACEWAY

I just returned from testing the car, which arrived this morning, at Buena Park Raceway. It was smooth from the start, with a very fast motor. I usually like more brakes, but it handled going deep into the turns just fine. It felt a bit light, at 153 grams, so I added 15 grams and placed it on the back plate and on the pans in front of the rear tires.

After more laps I wanted to put the balance point even further back, and removed the extra weights in the front, and placed it all just in front of the motor, and on the side pans, towards the rear. And then the times started coming down... and down...   I was able to turn 5.03, 5:05, 5:07 and a bunch of 5:teens. Jim Lane, one of our best Hardbody drivers, and current holder of the GTP record, was there, and he pulled off one hairlap 4.95! All of those times are excellent GTP times.

So... nothing but praise for an excellent car to report. I'm looking forward to racing it Sunday! It's not the easiest car to drive, and I may add a bit more weight on Sunday morning. We'll see.

Stay tuned!

Eddie

PS: Since there is no "Handicap" set yet for this new class of car it will be competing equally with all the cars. If the track conditions are good, it should do very well.

Its race day! The car is very fast, but the motor is losing brakes so Im not going to add any more weight. And I like brakes! Stay tuned for results in a few hours.

Full brakes on the controller and still not enough?

For next time, maybe we could try 9/53, if it will work without having to redesign the motor box?

Good luck in the race, Eddie  :D

1st overall, and a solid 3rd when the class handicap was applied to the other cars. More details and pics later. Great car!

How does "class handicap" in Post #194 figure in?

Study this chart to understand the Handicap laps: https://socald3.smug...-19/i-h3QWCK9/A  This Handicap system, devised by Keith Tanaka, makes it possible for us to run any of our Hardbody class cars together in what we call "Mixed" Races. Since it's based on a formula dealing with the top two lap total finishes for each class, even slower classes of cars have a chance at the podium. In my case today, since this is a new class, there was no handicap laps given to me. The 2nd and 3rd place finishers DID get extra laps (see chart) and that's how they moved ahead of me, even though I had more total laps.

RACE REPORT for the Pablo Lola T70 at Buena Park Raceway

I'm attaching a pic of the total laps run by all 12 racers. There were 8 racers and 4 sit-outs, who marshaled until it was their turn to get back on. I was able to get the highest lap total for the race with 256 laps. This is a very respectable finish. In fact, in the second race of the day I turned an identical 256 laps with my GTP car! The track was a bit loose later in the day; our GTP lap record is 265 laps. I have no doubt I can get over 260 with Pablo's car if I have a fresh motor with more brakes in it. The car is still a bit light, but I would add a bit more weight IF the car had more brakes. It's not a matter of the gear ratio; it was that particular motor losing its brakes. It handled very smoothly, and would do even better with a bit more weight.

So that's it for now. Everyone was gawking over the car, and it was truly admired by all. They probably were wishing they weren't mostly seeing the rear end of it passing them on the track, though!   :laugh2:  Thanks for the opportunity and honor of being allowed to run it. Great job!

Eddie

Interesting.  At one time we tried to handicap drivers in our races at Slots of Fun along a similar method.

So if the estimated 16 lap differential is accurate and had been applied in this race what changes to the final outcome would there have been?
