I haven't been racing the series for the last few years but the same FSCS classes are run at P-1 Raceway where I race every week so I would like to see the following change in the rules.

 

I'd like the minimum chassis/spur gear clearance, as measured below the rear axle, changed from .047" to .025".

 

This would allow the underside of the chassis center and the underside of the pans and the bottom edge of the body to all be in the same plane.

 

This would remove the need to bend the chassis center section, just in front of the motor, in order to get the underside of the chassis and pans more uniformly low and more parallel to the track surface, resulting in good handling and good front bumper clearance.

 

For anyone who's initial reaction to my suggestion is that it's too radical, try putting tires on a chassis that give the rear clearance of .025", take a look and then decide if it looks crazy-low, especially keeping in mind that the rules allow any part of the rest of the chassis and pans to drag on the track, including some really nasty-looking braid-gouging front arms.

 

FWIW, K&S sells brass strips in .025" thickness so they could be easily obtainable and used as a tech tool.

 

Also, FWIW, I recall Aaron commenting in a post that where he now races, they don't even have a minimum clearance rule.

Just for info, European flat track racing generally has a rule of 0.8mm (just over 0.030") at the start of the race under the gear.  The front of the chassis is pretty much on the deck.  At the club I start my cars on about 0.025" and run them down to around 0.015" before changing rear tyres. We don't check clearance unless the car is audibly dragging, and we don't have problems with braid or track damage.
