Rebuilt my Warmack car for a shorter wheelbase. Painted up a O/S Lola T160 D3 legal body in an attempt to prepare for the Western States D3 in August. Just need to do that hated interior part.

Paited this O/S Ferarri 612 two weeks ago for Saturday night racing at Swiss's. It does have lace.  :laugh2:

Finished a couple today.
First up is a Wing Car body for Depoe Bay Raceway. Mark asked me to paint a tribute body for one of their racers who passed away last month. As the story goes, Kim walked into the slot shop and said that he wanted Mark to build a car for Kim to play with and so Mark did so with just the stuff on the wall. All the best stuff, EDM frame, pre-painted body, Hot motor, etc, etc. Kim wore that one out but not his friendship with Mark....
At any rate, Mark made up a new car as a tribute - once again pulling all the best parts off the wall... but since there were no "Incredible Hulk" bodies available he wanted me to paint one.

The second piece is for Chris Bruyninx from Belgium. The chassis was built by Steve O'keef, the body formed by George Hawkins and I painted it to look like one of the Hammerhead cars from the "Things about Thingies" article.

Beautiful as always Jairus. #88 is a perfect example of how a simple paint scheme (but done like THAT) can often be the "right" one for a car. Personally, I prefer masked paint jobs and solid colors as they seem to have more impact...as does this one!

A couple of "All American" designs! smile.gif

P1010987-vi.jpg

The graphics business is picking up a lot lately. Seems I am now working 10 to 12 hours a day just building ads and flyers and talking to the sales staff. Takes so much of my time that building complex slot cars is getting to be hard to find time for. I know that a lot of projects were bandied about on this forum and via PM. Anything that I have vested $ into or has been paid for in advance now has priority. The rest will just have to sit for a time... to be worked on when I am burned out from all the other work.

Maybe this hobby will once again become a "hobby". Imagine that...\. :shok:

Jairus, beautiful body painting, and some beautiful builds, sir. I'm glad the graphics business is picking up for you and we probably won't see as many builds with your schedule becoming busier. Just be sure to keep posting what you do get built, you are an inspiration to a lot of old hackers like me.

Thanks guys! I will continue to build and post. I still have a lot of projects in the works and made a lot of promises to people... you will still see work posted from time to time.

Airbrushing your own bodies is just like driving a slot car, scratchbuilding a slot car, building a motor or winding an armature......... ya just gotta jump in and try it; if you don't, it'll never happen. Nobody started out being a genius or a prodigy(well, I guess it's possible) and had to start somewhere. At first, you'll just learn how to operate your equipment. I'm still in that phase but I can at least paint bodies now. Just dive in; it'll be OK.

Hi Bill,

Of course Tex is right. There's only one way to do any of this stuff and that's...just do it! When I got back into winding, I showed all my trials (and errors!) here and along the way there were some helpful hints from members. Of course there's always going to be some information you will discard as you work up your own methods and figure out what works for you. You may never be a Jairus or a Noose, as I won't ever be a Greenaway or a Steube...but you can be the best you can be and that's enough! Go for it.

That's how it goes. One lesson learned. Try again. Adjust as needed. Over and over; it never ends. You're on your way now; good luck!

Finished up a couple this morning.
The first is a Mini-A restoration. Didn't need much more than a bit if alignment, new axle, new rubber, brushes.... and body! Painted to match that shown in an Italian Slot car book but with a different number. Didn't have a white #5... .dang!
;)

The second is a Trantula body on a Pablo custom built chassis. I didn't cut the body but it did require stripping out the original paint :bad: and poking some new pin-holes... :laugh2:

Oh, and I squirted some paint on it too... :paint2:

Jairus,

Way to go!

I really like the pinstriping - sure does add a custom touch.

BTW, is that a 36D motor I see in that Pablo chassis?

:D :D :D BEAUTIFUL Jairus!
The original Trantula was a VERY unique concept: Build a slot car in a bottle!
Pablo's unique chassis building talent was put to the test when I asked him to build a chassis around one of my rocket 16D's INSIDE of the blow molded Trantula body.
He did a magnificent job and the car had ASTOUNDING speed to didn't handle for XXXX!
We sent it over to the Euro Dudes for the very first proxy and they had a good time with it blasting it off their plasto tracks.
It came back kinda wrecked so I asked Pablo to re-do the chassis so it could handle the super hot motor.
As Jairus said my original paint job was crap so I had him add his master touch to the new version.
Now I just gotta replace the endbell on the motor, shunt the brushes and add some post protectors 'cause she's starting to melt down. Once I get that done she may have to go back to Pablo for a bit of additional ground clearance but I'll try her the way she is and see if she stays on the track. According to Jairus it better be a smooth, even track w/ no recessed braid.... We'll see! Thanks to Pablo and Jairus for making her live again!! :shok: :shok:
