I will be painting some CanAm and F1 retro bodies. I will be using Faskolor for the interiors. What exterior detailing paints do you recommend?

Well, this one is a mix of metaphors in my opinion. The Body is new @ .010 lexan but the basic chassis was built undetermined years ago only to be modified by me. The motor and wheels are nearly 45 years old, but the whole thing is at least scratch-building!

The Chassis was provided to me as an unfinished piece with motor mounts designed for a Revell-Pittman RP66 racing motor. The wheelbase was set for a Daytona stocker and so a re-pop E.D. Dodge Charger choosen even tho the motor choice seemed less than exciting.

Some chassis mod's were required such as adding a few rails to the outside to match the width of the body and a guide tongue created and mounted. The motor is fitted with a Tradeship pinion gear which mates to a Cox ring. Guide is vintage Cox, 3/16 post.
Posted Image

The only modifications to the motor are the addition of a NEO magnet to help wake up that moderate wind on the unbalanced arm.
Posted Image

The request regarding color was white, which I hate not only painting but taking pictures of....
Posted Image

I tried to add some fades in very light black as straight white bodies look boring to me. I thinned some black to the consistance of dirty brush cleaner that I could hardly tell left any thing behind! The effect once the white added only made it look grey to me. (Next time I will try brown as a fade color for white)
Not sure of the wheels... they look like really cool vintage Ulrich castings to me and pretty rare since this is the first I have ever seen!
Posted Image

Posted Image
Posted Image
Ultimately I had in mind a race series using only these motors and stocker bodies as paramenters. All else freegame! Enjoy....

Jairus,

The 1968 Dodge Charger - in my opinion the prettiest year for the Charger. The sculpting on the body is awesome and it was available with the 426 Hemi motor from the showroom. An awesome car - from the period chassis to the Pittman motor - just very, very cool! The essence of the period has been captured for many to see.

While you don't sound entirely happy with the paint scheme, I think it is VERY period. I seem to remember some photos in Hot Rod magazine that had one of the Funny Cars of that period in it and the paint was a fogged affair. The black hood is so period correct!

The "Scat Pack" emblem does look cool on the car and does lend a lot to the nostalgia look.

Just another Jairus piece of art.

Thank you!
Marty Stanley
