Finished one for Jens Graf, one of our Germany friends. He wanted the colors based on one of his favorite breweries.

Actually did a full car for this one... but time limits me to just this one pic for now as a teaser :laugh2:

Very nice Jairus, and I bet the person is going to be very happy with it.
Wish I had some spare $$ to order some body's from ya. ;)

Just finished another very different one for a customer who loves some of the creatures from the mind of J.R.R. Tolkien as envisioned by Hollywood digital arts studios. He requested either an image of a "Balrog" or a "Nazgûl" (from Black Speech nazg, "ring", and gûl, "wraith, spirit"; also called Ringwraith or Black Rider)
The Ringwraith was mostly blacks and greys/silver. Very cool colors and at first I liked the idea. But the chance to play with fire force me to choose the "Balrog".
(Might do the other just for fun...)

P1010111-vi.jpg

I didn't want the paint to be just a simple "Mural" on the face of a racing car... instead chose to make the image wrap around the car and the two become one. Of course a Thingie body works best and this one is by Eldon "Gene" Adams and called "Shinoda short bus GT".
Since I have been looking at this thing for three days now, I am way too invested and can no longer be objective regarding the design. Not sure if it needs more... or if I should stop.

P1010113-vi.jpg

Took a few hours of study on Google images to learn all the features of the "Balrog" and that is one ugly creature! Fun to take on a camping trip though... never get cold sleeping with him in the tent! smile.gif

I am sitting here on a pile of Gene's bodies with no current work to do.... so, I thought "why not paint a few?"
These are going up on ebay in the morning and I might pull a few more from the box later because it was actually FUN to shoot color when I AM THE CUSTOMER and the pressure is off! :P

Finished another one moments ago. The customer only wanted Gene's "Hydro-Kompressor" and didn't care what I painted on it. Well, I racked my brain for 'bout 20 mins before I arrived on a very cool "Flash Gordon" paint theme. I mean... the shape of the body almost writes this one by it's self, No? :)

Time to revive this thread I suppose.
Never quit painting, but found painting racing shells boring if I couldn't do the chassis, too.

Anyway, here are two of five racing shells done for the local Retro racing group. One Porsche 917-10 and a McKee Mk10. Not shown but already on the circuit are two Ti22s and another Porsche.

The differences in OUR Retro racing is that the bodies represent actual period livery and the wheels are scale diameter!
Motor is still the JK FK motor, but most others are not turned away.
Next race is this Saturday, Feb 7.

Not sure I plan to be there... but the McLaren in the back (my entry) does need shaken out a bit (and a roll bar).

Very nice looking bodies, Jairus! Historic liveries are the way to go.

EDIT: Then again, it could be hazardous to have eight cars all painted identically (eight Ti22s or eight McLaren M's, etc).

Easy fix when there are usually only four lanes per race.

Plus, that Porsche 917-10 ran under a lot of different banners and paint schemes. Did it not?
