The updated Official pic has been done yesterday so it just means that, at the moment at least, the cars are as immaculate as of when we got them (race use not withstanding).
"As of the "after" pic only the Higher Powers, who control the car's destiny, will know."
So said the Mad Butcher sharpening his bistoury...

Motors change, tires change, but a floppy drop arm can't be fixed?
I don't understand these rules.
Are there rules?
For next year I hope you can come up with some sensable rules, or bare minimum let us know ahead of time what the rules are.
This is a wonderful start though and a great thing you have done. I love seeing all of the cars. I am quite sure you folks will have the bugs worked out by next year.
Keep up the good work.
As for my pick, I like the silver metalflake one with the angel on the rear portion. She gets me off.

...How can motors be replaced but you couldn't run the Cherry with a stiff front end in the next race...
Hi Richard
Don said it perfectly in the previous page of this thread when Tom also complained to me for not putting much needed weight on his Trantula.
I know it would have been quite simple to fix the Black Cherry's drop arm, put weights on the Trantula and also lower the gear ratio on at least a dozen of those cars and a lot more tuning could have been done to all of them as the races went along. But that takes a lot of time and parts. Something we were not expecting to have to do.
Instead basic maintenace is performed the best we can to keep the cars going until the end of the Proxy. Endbell's burned motor was changed in that spirit exactly like those of the Vulture, Mach 1 and SuperCuc which all burned on the Blue King in Copenhagen as previously stated in this thread.
Richard, I can only assure you that shall the Black Cherry burn its motor or something that will prevent her to run I will not put her aside but I will keep her going by all means!
Kind regards
Edo

I just gotta know. How can motors be replaced but you couldn't run the Cherry with a stiff front end in the next race.

Although Don´s explanation seemed perfect to me, the issue is still not settled? Mmmmhhhh... O.k., let´s put it easier then:
Edo and Allan (my little help is not comparable to their efforts) are doing everything to keep the cars in the race. Meaning that they are changing burnt motors and substitute lost or damaged parts.
But it is not their task to TUNE the cars. In a proxy race every car should be properly set up by the constructor BEFORE he is entering the car. If the car is not too driveable, it earns bad points in the race. It is not the proxy directors´ task to change the car, but the constructor should build a better car next time.
In fact, some cars received a little bit of help so that they could enter and survive, e.g. when parts were lost during transportation. But this was never done to make them run better than other cars.
To take the examples of lead and droparm: If there was lead in the car which was lost, it would have been replaced. If the drop arm fixing broke, it would have been fixed. But if a contestant enters a car with bad trimming or set-up, the car is slower than others.
So there is no need to change rules. And there are enough... The race directors already have sh..loads of work and they are worshipping every car more than their own. But it´s not up to them when a participant sends an incompetitive car.
However, IT IS a cool event and I love to be a part of it. Next year is a good chance for every new proxy racer, and a new chance for everybody who is already competing. Still it is a fun thing. And it should remain fun for Edo and Allan and all others...
All the best,
Markus

The car is the sum of it's parts.
I understand the rules now. A car can fall apart, lose its parts, burn up its motor, and all is well. Seems to me they too should construct a better car next time.
Never seeing the tracks that these proxy races were to be run on how would one know how to lead or how the droparm will work. I would like to know this.
It is easy to build a motor that will not blow up on unknown tracks. much harder to tune a chassis.
At any rate I did not enter a car in this Proxy race, I just built a car for a friend and he chose to run it.
I was however building 7 or 8 cars for Ed Blake to send next year and as you say the rules don't need changing so be assured I will take my time on the chassis and put the worst motors I have in them so you nice guys will replace them when they blow up.
Thanks for helping me to understand more clearly how the rules work.
I must say I am beginning to see why Bill from NH says proxy racing isn't his cup of tea.

I do love what they have done with the proxy race. I applaud them all. I am proud to see a car I built in the line up.
I however am human and being so like to feed my ego. I like a fair shake. If the motor I built burns up, my car should be out. If my droparm isn't right it should be out. If my wheels fall off it should be out. Or they all should be in.
The car is the sum of its parts. Not replacement parts. Especially Motors.
Nascar, you put in a new motor, back of the pack for you.
Edo has nothing but my uttermost repect. He is passionate about thingies. He has done so much for the revival of thingies. I just wanted to shed a few tears and now I am over it.

Hi Richard
the Black Cherry fitted the rules perfectly and I could not not enter it and if you look at the official picture you can see that it takes its place wonderfully in that group.
I cherish it very very much and I thank you once again for giving it to me!
It is the first Proxy Thingie race we organized and we are learning a lot for the next ones. Next year we will publish the rules and the tracks pictures here on SBlog too and I really hope you and Ed will take part!
Kind regards

YOU are d MAN for chassis design and build!!! 8) 8)  I would be EXTATIC to be yer partner in ANY race ANY time!!
I am totally convinced that if we could have made a slight adjustment in the Tranny's front end weight we would have kicked everyones *** in this race. AND this car wasn't even built for racing!!! It was a PURE experiment in terror!!!
If the concourse awards points for being TOTALLY original and TRUE to 60's era Thingies then Tranny wins HANDS DOWN!!!

You too can make solder joints almost as good as Lee Gilbert's. The torch makes it easier to get a neat, strong joint with a minimum amount of solder. I went a little nuts and did the frame with 98% tin./2% solder which is a little iffy to use with the old Ungar stick. The little pieces also stay in place better when I use the torch. I have a habit of knocking bits like cross braces and pan down stops out of alignment when I use a soldering iron.

Hey Bob Is that a fire proof block under the chassis? Where'd you got it? Are they still available? Does it have pin holes in it? okay I'll stop now....I built this with a torch!
PS: nice chassis. Is it a customer car or is it part of the North American Thingie Contingent for the 2007 Thingie Proxy Race? 8)

I built the chassis along with a custom airbrushed Shinoda Bullet for Kai Bach Andersen body in exchange for a bunch of those cool thingie front wheels and set screw 5-hole rear hubs.

Can you guys imagine having a chance to race all those cars?
Any news about the 2007 Convention at Buena Park? That's where, ideally, it should take place at.
Maybe EDreams would even be interested in sponsoring the event.
