But what can we expect from standard 40 years old motors with no epoxy on it?
Anyway NOS pares are on our way for the Turin race in 2 weeks on a Carrera 33 m:
Comments on the Copenhagen racecar's behaviour soon...

The Trantula IS a speed monster, the motor was the fastest one and it was geared right for the Blue King but frankly, on that flat track the front deslots very easily.
It looks like it needs more weight on the front or better yet, a whole banked circuit to express itself fully.
The Black Cherry was a great runner, fast and stuck down, a real pleasure to drive:
Unfortunately it would suddently deslot for no apparent reason. I think the problem is the drop front hinge:
.
All the cars the Italians sent (the Barchetta, the Elfin, the Classic Stinger and the Asp, not so much the Manta Ray) suffered a bit from short gearing.
The Renegade did loose a motor mount piece during the race and a few of the drivers said it was driving better!
The red Shinoda Zot had one rear tire come unglued while racing and the crown came a bit loose and filed some of its teeth. Fortunately it was the last lap of that round allowing a quick fix. Pity it's such a delicate car, it really was doing great. So was the Heavenly Hornet when it would stay in the track. I love those Pactra chassis but they are not as good handlers as the Dynamics.
The Pocket Rocket is just amazing, I never saw it deslot once whoever was driving it. That car is the car to beat! La Bostella despite the total lack of brakes is also almost impossible to deslot. The Cucs won after the Supercuc fried the motor. The Cuc Logo was a easy winner on the rest thanks to the shimmed motor. In any case they are not very fast but so secure! So even on a fast track like the Blue King speed is nothing if there is no control.
What can we say about the Double Cross with one of those nuts and bolts german chassis? The question was: does it have magnets under it ?
Stay tuned as there is 4 more races to go!

you're not going to like this but we could'nt possibly perform that kind of tuning to your car or any of the cars that need it to run perfectly once you try them on the proxy tracks. Imagine if we would have to change gears, put weights, tires or all kind of tuning etc etc. ourselves. We were supposed to send the cars RTR. The only work we've been performing is that which allows the car to run in case it brakes or in case i've received cars with sponge tires which have been changed into rubber ones.
Off course we do not work on our cars either!

you're giving me grief!
We are changing only the motors that blew up in Copenhagen so the 4 cars are going to be able to continue the proxy. We're not performing any tune ups to the cars as sent.
If I do that for your Trantula I have to do that for many others. Also keep in mind that, since the tracks are so different from one to the other the tuning would be endless and cannot rest on on my frail fashion victim's shoulders alone.

Hi Steve,... When's the next series? I need plenty of time to prepare.
Steve C.
the next Proxy Thingie race is in 12 month, so start building now, time goes by real fast at our age!

That soon? I'll never be ready in time! OK. If I have to compete against TJ's horsepower, I need to wind some arms fast! Does anyone have any spare arm holders for a rewind jig? I don't need the whole jig, just the clamps for holding 16d, 26d and 36d arms. Happy to buy or swap for bits.
Is there a list of classes and rules somewhere? If it was in this thread, then I missed it.

If I remember correctly, I built one of these at the time from old Erector Set (Meccano) parts, or maybe just some wood and soldered tube...
Horsepower doesn't seem to be the answer in proxy races, but a steady, easy-handling car and especially preparation - believe me, I learned that!

Hi Steve
2006 rules were here:
http://www.slotforum...showtopic=10680
For 2007 there is a discussion going on now with some new proposals. It is safe to assume that the Spirit of the 60's Thingie Era will be kept intact for the 1/24 category (unless the People overthrow Our throne, in that case I'm going back to my crochet lessons and away from all slot forums, all pics pulled out from them, all my Thingies will be burned and I will even stump the floor with my feet wearing my very expensive Alden shoes! ).
For the 1/32 "Anything goes" we will NOT admit modern commercial chassis like we did this year.
Please start building today and keep in mind what Don has said
Best regardsHorsepower doesn't seem to be the answer in proxy races, but a steady, easy handling car and especially preparation

Next year will be a differnt story. I 've got several Shinodas already built that have a much more polite power curve and handle a lot better. LOOK OUT IN THE USA AND EUROPE NEXT YEAR!!!

The Freeblog political forum has pissed away so much of my time. Liberals will always be so. Consevatives will always be so. I have decided to stay away from the politics and concentrate on the slotcars. No more Freeblog for me.
Came home Thursday night to discover I have many orders to fill for new thingie cars. The gods have blessed me. Folks want me to build more vintage thingies. Eddie has a ton of them for me to build.
I love buiding cars so I am estatic. Nothing mkes me happier than to build a car and see how it runs..
If your Shinoda car is popping out, lets fix it. I have some ideas that will solve the bouncing. The drop arm is no doubt the problem. I will be sending you another car soon whch I hope will solve your lifting problems with a longer wheelbase. The drop arm needs a bit of weight I believe. On a short track it should be fine but on a long track it will be ill-handling. I want to make your "Black Cherry" perfect. We'll get it rocking, Edo.

The drop arm is no doubt the problem.
Actually it's enough to make the drop arm rigid. I did try and it works, making the car way more stable!
Unfortunately I had to put it back the way it was for the Turin's Proxy Race round (and the rest of the Proxy) or else it wouldn't have been fair to the other participants.
The race in Turin will start tomorrow afternoon and by Monday I will let you and the other guys here know the results.
Stay tuned.
Kind regards,

that Freeblog is evil! It keeps great builders and slotters away from their "raison d' être" which is build slotcars and, yes!, pursue the Thingie revolution.
Besides, I'm told, there is porn, indecent talk, drugs and even (can you believe that) some left wing ideas being promoted!
Gee, where is the slot world going to?

here are the pictures of the winners for the 4th round of the Proxy Thingie race which took place in Turin last week end.
There was no surprise here, in the 1/32 cat, with the usual winner: the "nuts and bolts" equipped Doublecross which it's sooo drivable and fast on every single track it races on (boriiing!
2nd place for another pretty "boring" competitor: the ¨Face addict" TSRF LongPig majestically driven by Franco Uliana and other experienced Italian drivers was really smoking on that track!
3rd place by the Ferrari thingie with a 1980 scratchbuild chassis prototype and a NSR Shark 22k motor. It looks like my TSRF Face addict car will slug it out for 2nd place with the Ferrari til the end (Dokk is'nt that exciting?)!
The Capri did well as usual in his 4 wheel drive configuration that seems to like plastic tracks.
The LongPig Stripes, a new entry, did pretty good but has a very fast Mura motor which overpowers that International by Parma chassis (especially at 14 Volts!).
The Dynamic Renegade was a favourite by all drivers and pretty easily classified 1st on Ezio's 33m Carrera and it's now "officially" a serious contender for the Classic's series winner. It just goes to confirm that those Dynamic frames are really good. Surprise 2nd place by my favourite female driver Philippa on her Vulture, who drove very consistently and secure, weaving lap after lap.
Another surprise was the Astro V's 3rd place which finally found the right track to shine on (or maybe a lucky set of pilots). The Italian tuners were very impressed by the way the arm was clicking in the can (if you get my drift
The Cucs took somewhat of a beating on this track. The Manta Ray fell in the hand of experienced drivers and suddently jumped in mid pack.
The Heavenly Hornet is one of my favourite cars but has not found the right pilot-track combination yet. The Pactra chassis, which I like very much has to be very low down to work well, like in the Vulture's set up with its tiny rear wheels which seem the way to go but would have ruined the Hornet's proportions. I had the same problem with the Astronaut's set up (see a soon to be published thread on Turin's Vintage meeting which also included a Thingie race, with other pilots and cars)
The F&S category was Italian Thingies territory all the way. A great show of those cars with many of their tuners and pilots driving them! They took the winners of the Copenhagen leg by storm and this category will be the most fought until the end!
The Shinodas and, in general, the US tuned cars which BTW are my favourite, were not at ease on this track. I hope they will be on the North London one in 3 weeks time!
The proxy cars were on display for 3 days and raised a lot of interest with the many people that came to see all the vintage races going on that week end
[
The organizers of the Turin Vintage meeting were enthousiastic and want to host the 2007 proxy also.
Kind regards
Edo
