\ If a geek had the same body no one would say anything....

I guess I am not a geek then. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: But then again when this subject came up....... my name was the only one mentioned out of all the ugly, boring bodies Harry seen in the Sano pics. ;)

Interesting stuff...

It still boils down to the fact that if the IRRA BoD WANTS better looking cars, they need to address it in the rules, with defined specifications. More than what is currently listed.

Appearance standards that can be ENFORCED would be needed. The present cars pass the minimum standards, so it is a moot point at this time. In looking at the SANO photos, the only body that I questioned was someone's Ferrari Can-Am that did not have the entire cockpit opening cut-out...

As it stands now... body painting and appearance is personal and subjective. Something like Retro East jail door GP appearance standards would need to be incorporated. Things such as proper sized numbers and location, more detailed interiors, detailed injector stacks and exhausts etc.

Would increased appearance standards hurt entry numbers? Probably no more so than qualifying and drug out race formats...lol

As for Hershman's 'unfair' motor advantage... I do not see his PS motors being faster than anyone else. In fact, I witnessed the guy who finished last at the the last OVR race pull him by five feet at Tom Thumb. Also, keep-in-mind that he won the GTC race (using handout TSR motors) at the R4 last year by a huge margin. Hard to explain that one away.

No sense arguing over things that can't be enforced.

Not all 1:1 racing cars from the 60's were beauties; if the "spirit" is to be invoked, then there MUST be some "less than beautiful" slot cars also, just to keep things realistic, right? As an example, look at that picture of the Lotus 19 with the Bardahl sign on the back of it.... pretty dang ugly race car. McLaren's were 1 color, at least until they sprouted big wings. My favorite cars, the Chaparral's were 1 color in boring white. I wouldn't be surprised if some privateers used 1 color of fence paint on their cars. They did what they did to get "in the show". Why should we have to do any more just because it's 1:24 scale?

LOL of course Dan. Once my personal bodies are real purty and winning concours, they will go on about how I can pick through 100's of bodies, colors, etc to have a unfair advantage.

Point: I never interpreted one-color cars to be the problem...

It was one-color cars, that had no details painted... ie: injectors etc., and one color interiors.

Truthfully, many attemps at two-color paint schemes are much uglier than one-color...

Some of the prettiest cars (IMHO) are solid color cars, with varying detail and number combinations.

AGAIN, until the IRRA increases painting standards, with defined rules, what are we arguing about?

What's hysterical is that out of all the classes run there might have been only a couple of bodies that didn't look up to what some here feel are the expected standard. There were WAY more than at the R4 and overall the cars looked fine.

There is no rule that says the bodies have to be painted in the exact liveries or like the cars run in the 60s. Nor do we require cars made to the exact scale specs.

And hey Rob...those Shadows are not legal. :laugh2:

Apple's and orange's Ron. In the other thread we're talking about chassis construction.

You posted a picture of the car you ran at the R4 and asked "is there anything wrong with this paint job". So I told you what was wrong with it. Plain and simple, ain't I peachy? :) ;)

Nothing was wrong with it...... it passed tech and WON the race!!!!

It met the rules..... two color interior..... it has three colors ( driver with black suit, black gloves, black helmet, black face shield as it was sunny outside and a red Texaco sponsor on top of the helmet and Silver seat).... the body was two colors...... detailed lines and three numbers and sponsor stickers in place.

Now what was wrong with it again????

Now, if your team all wore those paints for the R4/3, that would be worth the price of admission... :laugh2:
