Cool looking car Dokk, Is it yours? Now rotate the tires ... (or get a minion to do it) and take another picture. :laugh2:

How will that 'wrap' (or paint) look in a 'few' years of Your Mexifornia  :sun_bespectacled: shine.

BTW: I have been 'on the track' driving a show wrecker in the pre-race parade with the PPG cars  ... they are sweet. :D

I spotted something like the below on FB awhile back.

I saw a few of the movies, so I smiled.

I like that...

But here is the proof that some rice burners had all those gears:  :)

I'm sure you like your 16 year old PPG support vehicle, but I'd bet most kids would rather have a Honda with a big turbo, EVO, or a used Nissan GT-R?

Grab an extra set of underwear, dump 60K on a used GT-R a donate that old Mercedes to some museum or something.

Rob, the car has "only" 420 HP and a top speed of "only" 188, and it was a gift from a very good (late) friend. It has 2500 miles on the clock. Not quite a museum piece yet, but it is on display in one at this time. Now putting a 100-grand + GTR iagainst it s a bit unfair, is it not? Let's stick to hopped-up Honda with big turbos and tons of money spent and that little C-car could still show them the way home... and it has only 5 gears!

As far as underwear, I only wear the very best, and it washes very well!

I don't leave it in the sun, it actually has a roof over its head, but the paint looks absolutely perfect after 15 years, not a scratch, no fading of any kind. Then again, Mercedes spent 30 grand at PPG to get it done with the most advance stuff they had then... and the prep looks like it is quite something. They even took the engine out to paint the engine compartment in satin black...

At this time there is some interest from AMG to get it back for their museum in Affalterbach in a trade, and I am trying to sweet talk them in letting me have an E-63 wagon... even with a few miles on it, that would definitely by my wife's car because otherwise I'd end up in jail too quickly!

No Bob, it is perfect because it was before gifted to me, and all I did is put a few miles on it... I even tried to verify its top speed once but was 6 mph short, there was traffic ahead and it was 2 AM... so even if my trusty Valentine One did not go nuts, it could have been someone unfriendly!  :D

My everyday beater is this thing:

I bought this 2001 AMG E55 4 years ago with 58K miles for under 13K. Today she just passed the 70K miles. So far it has been excellent, with only regular maintenance performed. It is totally stock and sits next to my wife's pristine, like-new, '99 AMG C43.

It's a medium size sedan with all the usual AMG stuff meaning the 5.5-liter from the "S" class with 355 HP and tons of low-end torque, incredibly good brakes with wonderful "feel", really good 5-speed auto that one can shift with the throttle foot, electronic locking diff and high quality leather and wood interior. It can easily clean the clock of most sporty BMW like the M3  or M5 except for truly recent ones, and what do you want for so cheap anyway?
It is simply astounding that these great cars are so cheap on the used market, but I am not one to complain.

Recently I got new brake pads and had the trans mounts changed because they were worn. The on-board display tells me that it averages 19.5 mpg over the last 2500 miles, which surprises me because I am rather not light footed... it does not appear to wear tires or brake pads as fast as most other cars, showing that the chassis and bump-steer are finely tuned.
Lovely machine at any price, but curiously, my wife prefers driver her C43 "C car" that is a heck of a lot less comfortable, even if a nice little 300 HP go-kart. Go figure... I had bought the E55 for her, so that I could hot rod the C car. Never mind. biggrin.gif
I plan to keep both for a long time, I see no reason to get another car anytime soon. None whatsoever.

Simon bought my old C36 (a C-car with the inline 6, a 1997 car that is truly fast and handles like a go-kart). I already had two C43s so the C36 became redundant. He loses the car and I don't blame him... those things run forever.

P:

Sorry AMG Mercedes don't do alot for me. I grew up with them as a kid. My father had a 124 Chassid car and my brother worked for Buxbaum so I was at the dealership / shop all the time. Besides framed etchings and other old AMG junk squirreled away in my basement I have the old hood emblem from the Hammer prototype. About the only thing positive I can say is it weren't for those old twin can 6.0 conversions is that without those you probably wouldn't have the cars you have today.

Personally I'll stick to Fast & Furious type cars or a Grand Cherokee SRT 8 that will blow the does off those old AMG and go through snow if needed.

Rob, not a problem, this is why there are choices in life. I prefer low-end torque to screaming revs, I guess it comes with age...  :)

For me the AMG cars have not only been extremely economical and reliable, but once the depreciation has settled, and once you buy them like I do, at 15 cents on the dollar, they never lose their value. Plus they are totally stealth for the local gestapo... they think that you are some old dude, and suspect nothing! :D

Bob, that the whole idea. Be discreet but quick. A "Fast and Furious" car is a direct ticket to jail standing still. AMG always put their philosophy (until some really outrageous recent versions called "Black Series") to provide extremely fast cars with fabulous handling, brakes and comfort to well healed gentlemen on the planet, who did not want the attention but refuse to crawl in traffic.

Thing is, once used for a couple of years by those wealthy people, they go on the secondary market and their prices drop like stones. Their loss, my gain. For the price of a new Nissan Sentra boat anchor, I have two wonderful cars with unmatched built quality, hard to match performance even by most of the newest cars, low registration and insurance costs, and those cars will last many, many years.

And you want me to drive something else like some rev-happy, no torque until 5-grand on the tach, noisy Japanese hopped-up drift machine that I can humiliate in seconds with my grandpa machines?  :heat:

Don't think so buddy... :)

As a driver of panther based cars for the last 20 years I can tell you that with only 96k its barely broken in.

Raisin

Raisin,

As someone who fairly recently resurrected his late uncle's 113K, 96 Crown Vic,(that had been started only once in 4 years) for a daily driver,

that's encouraging to know.

On a day like today, it's nice to have A/C that works well again.

And although, I guess technically, it doesn't by a foot or so, it sure feels like it has a tighter turning radius than my Focus SVT did.

Crown Vics are great cars, well built, very comfortable and with decent handling, and they are cheap to buy. They are short on brakes, so be a bit careful if you have to brake 4 or 5 times hard because of traffic, the 5th or 6th time may be lethal... :)
