Just arrived back at the bunker. Had a great time at the track this evening. Ran all the cars for 2 hours giving each a chance to get get used to the track. Problem was that I had forgotten that the track has recessed braid. All the cars are set up for flush braid. But... lucky I had a lot of nylon guide washers in the box. So... I spent a little time adding washers to the guides for all 6 cars. Of course they handled much better with... duh.
I have about a dozen so will be ordering more to make sure all the cars are set up correctly to run on this track before the race.

The only car that I have concerns with still is "Miss-K". She is powerful and very quick, but the rear tires tend to chatter a bit coming out of a turn. Since this track has quite a few turns.... I felt it still needs tweeking.

"Manta Ray" ran about the best of all 6 I tested. Of course I liked my car best personally, but Ray's little Hammerhead can dive deep into the corner and not come off. Not much for brakes, but it just doesn't come out of the slot if you let it coast through. Very sweet car and reminds me a lot of my ol'Firefly from the previous Sunchaser Proxy.

While "Titanic" was a bit of a challenge to get used to... once I did I found it fun to drive. Sliding around the corners can be quite effective and it's not slow! I even applied a little glue.... just for fun, and it really became FUN! I like this one too.
Heck, I liked them all!

Anyway, I spent the balance of the time testing my new D3 car that never made it to the Pete Zimmerman race. Once I swapped in a guide washer it ran like stink! Lot of fun and very quick. But the hard front wheels were noisy on that wood track. Something I wasn't used to and "Titanic" did the same thing with it's hard fronts. All in all a great evening and quite productive.

Now, most of you are probably asking: when is the next race? Well, I don't know yet.
Still need the timer installed and some of the overhead lights need the ballast replaced. Then I need to find a few drivers. Most of which I can simply call on the phone and get a promise that they will be there. But, short answer is, it won't be long!

Goodnight.

Well, I am not modifying any of the cars unless I tell the owner first. (Or after I do the mod such as Bob's "X2". She runs great Bob and quite powerful.)

so the partial testing last night was just for the cars that needed repairs ?
to see that they were OK,now,,
and then you'll test & adjust the rest of them as need be too?

Nice Pictures, the X-2 and Marvin look ready.

That track is cool, reminds me of a F1 or CART street course, the bridge seams, elevations and all. Lots of character.

Glad to hear it's running good and hope it was fun to play.

Oscar, I will "inspect" all the cars to ensure there are no problems running them. Only thing I will change will be the addition of a guide washer to account for the recessed braid. If anyone wants mods to their entry, best to send me a PM. Likewise, if I find any problems in any car I WILL notify the owner what was fixed or repaired... or what needs repaired. But I am not going to actively look for things that need fixing to make them better. "Titanic" took next to the last place in the last race. I felt it needed looking at as did those cars that fell in the stats significantly.

As for Miss K, I decided that it might have been the ultra sticky tires that were the problem. Just letting the car sit for a couple weeks may make the handling improve and reduce the tire chatter. Everything else about that car seems solid and in good order.

Nobodies car is getting ignored or any extra attention.

If they're treated tires, it could be that zip grip. It doesn't necessarily work well on everything and can soften paint too in some cases.

Miss K's tyres are regular untreated natural rubber with nothing special added. They were fresh cut when the car was in London so it may be that everyone else's tyres are getting a little weary in comparison.
I can offer no explanation aside from that.

Thanks for your excellent help in checking Kate's car over, Jairus. Very much appreciated.

Good luck in the final race, Agent Z. I'm hoping for a good run for all the racers.

Jairus the track looks to have about .030" recess...... thats a lot of spacers and my car needs the front tires "just" touching on the surface of the track please. I hope it has enough guide post...

Correct Barney. I have been installing all the .030 washers I have on hand since the test session. Ordered another twenty from JK last night which will give me a few on hand for future builds once all entries are set.

I WON'T be removing the spacers after the race due to the time involved. So, be forewarned (TMI Bob?).

Jairus, Do you have a photo of the entire track at ASA? Driving up to our place just north of Seattle next month and it would be a nice place to take a little diversion from the road to stop in and turn a few laps. Sorry for the thread drift!

J, Thanks for the work on the car and the positive comments. I don't feel like a looser after all :) As I said before, this is the first car I ever built to actually race. I was born a little too late to race the larger cars. I actually never did race on a commercial track until 6 or 7 years ago. No excuses, just facts. For me it was a learning experience and sometimes frustrating at the same time. I actually can't believe it is still moving under it's own power :laugh2: I can't thank everyone involved enough, especially you for your work and dedication. For me it was an honor to have my car grouped with some of the real stars of the sport and handled by legends as well. Thanks again.

Quick update.
I talked to Glenn at ASA Hobbies and he is loving the idea and even mentioned getting the local newspaper involved to report on the race. We are meeting on Saturday and I'm taking all the cars down to Albany so he can see each and every entry. Will be printing out all the race results as well so he can get a feel for what these machines have gone through during the last 13 months.

The timing/lap counter is installed and we are ON track!

Update:
The cars are ready and at the track waiting for the day! Preliminary date is set for June 23rd and we have 3 talented drivers so far lined up on the docket. The time is needed to get the publicity that Glenn Pullar wants to generate over this event. Not sure about streaming on the internet but, might be able to provide some real time posts on Facebook if I can find someone willing to do the posting.

Posted Image

I printed out a score sheet for each race including a pic of the track. But nowhere to post it so setting up a 3-ring binder that can be laid on the counter and thumbed through by anyone interested. Working on that tomorrow as tonight I am working on a beer and resting for a change.
