Thanks for the info Dave :) I'm working backwards from a 17/24 :shok: ...to a couple of #25 arms up to probably a #27S and maybe a #28 or #29 double. I actually have a #29 triple wind here somewhere I did a while back that meters stooopid-low and should drop right in my setup, but I think that key here is "enough" motor to still be running at the end of the race :laugh2: I sent some arms to Bill Bugenis to be dynamically balanced and need to get some time to do the #26, #27 and maybe some doubles. Whatever I wind up using, I'll have some arms afterwards that will probably collect dust!

Bob, If they were out pre 1970, None of the "Magazine" racers ever used them nor did anyone ever advertise them.

I saw heatsinks first time in Pooch setups sometimes in 71 or preferably 72; first narrow ones, then broader with oval "holes".

You were running Pro at the time so I trust your statement to be true. That would make you a "Magazine Racer" too...lol
I did ask Doc like four times "are you sure it was in late 1968 early 1969?".

I'll PM him to ask him to comment in this thread AND look through the CD's I have of the old magazines for the "sinks".

I can ask Joel when he started using them. I'm pretty sure late '71. I remember that we were only up to bus bars in early '71.

Tom, the motors I bought from Joel after Nutley closed and I was on my own, ,were the first I ever used that had buss bars. That had to be 71 the earliest.

Well, now I feel a little less silly considering #24 and #25 wire arms in ceramic magnet setups. Jeez...my #24 is 17 turns, a "Mabuchi" compared to what you guys are doing :) I'm still going to wind a few "milder" arms to try in the Champion, maybe build up a Mura setup as a "plan B". I predict lots of fun and......................................................smoke!

Bob and Tony, As I rack my brain (whats left of it) I believe that I created these heat sinks in the early 70's like 1970 or most likely 1971... The story about Ken seeing my custom made heat sinks and wanted me to design them for him is true. His packaging called them something like "Dougherty End Bell Heat Sinks". There is another post on here somewhere on Slotblog that had a photo of the heat sinks.

Jairus, Is .020 the spec min body thickness for this race? :unknw: .015 with .005 thick paint :sarcastic_hand:

Tony, :good: do you want me to paint and detail them? I have searched the old memory banks and do not remember these bodies at the slot shops in Jersey back then. Do you? They had the SF Bay cars, we could have a Raritan Bay car.
I would have had to have had one on my Champion 607 Jail Door if I ever saw one. :D

Ray, do you have the body mold for the "Repelatron" with the flat section on the front... at the max spec rule of hight and length?

Doc, thanks...good thing I asked again on the dates :dash2:

:umnik2: What is a #3 and #4? Anyone have catalog pic of the other styles other then the ones shown below?

Bob, only saw these in the magazines. We ran cars that looked like cars and would not touch these bodies if they were available. Just the way it was. Now people built thingies but they usually had a lotus 40 body with tiny asp front tires and tiny rears.... Not sure if the bodies ever made it back to our area. Remember the east cost was a couple of years behind the west in when the raceways opened and when we got knew trick **** it was already old in California... Our big boom for shops opening was 1966.

Ray, I don't know what #3 and #4 are, but I would like two of #8 if you do not mind. I will PM you.

Bob, do I really need to specify a body thickness? Vintage bodies were generally.030 so let's compromise on .020 please!

Hi Guys,
Sure Tony and/or anyone, PM me for details. #3 & 4? I don't have names, they were in a thread back a while ago with other Choti bodies. We would have to have Doc fill in the name if he wouldn't mind?
As for body thickness ? most of the vintage bodies were .030 but, we don't see a lot of them because of that? .020 is not bad but, .015 is more durable/ flexiable and a little less prone to cracking? Where as I use PETG plastic, I would go with the .015, especially with this style/type of bodies- Choti's ??
Ray

PS Hey Bob, the pic's suggest there might be 15 versions ? I would like to see a list myself.

A painted #10 body I did back a while ago, to give you and idea of how it looks. This is the only pic I saw, to make my copy

All I can tell you is this: I have a great deal of respect for anyone who drove these things with a 1970 controller. I have a lot of work to do on the first U-GO based car I built, it required a ton of choke and was still way too fast for the bank on a 155' hillclimb. The motor ran perfectly, but the chassis is going to need help. It's not yo daddy's wing car is all I can say.
