Making a Cox Gurney stocker

Anyone have a bunch of close up shots/drawings of the chassis so I can cobble one together? Original is way out of the price range !

Paul, I'm no Cox lover, but you'll be hard pressed to find any better photos of this chassis than Rick's on the first two pages of this thread.. Just don't try making this out of SS tubing.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Since the above piece was given to me to help with my project I would be happy to give it to you if it would help your project.
Hi Rick,
Wow, that's awesome! But can I give you something for it after all? Or maybe a trade? How about an NOS 36D Cox motor?
And if one of those Ulrich sete were to inadvertently open itself (I hate ripping into vinatge packaging), please also let me know!

I have a few of those interiors that I made a while ago if you get really stuck. Let me know and I'll try and find them.
Thanks! Let me start with Rick's and then see If I need a second one. I can't afford a second chassis right now (not without paying a divorce lawyer too ;-), but I would love to make two bodies for the one I have, the 65 and 66.
You guys are making me nervous about all the reproduction Chassis in circulation. I mean the handwork/effort is the same (RIck's is probably better!), and I wan't to try making one too eventually (that will surely be humbling), but I still hope mine is original. Does anyone have a photo of the repro endbell bracket? Maybe I don't wanna know.

Awesome job by the way Collin! Are you going to have it nickel plated? Hear there are DIY kits for destroying the Tupperware via Nickel plating, has anyone ever tried?

Just to answer a question asked above, the guy in Canada who was doing the repros did label them very clearly as repros, and they very quickly became not so cheap either! They are starting to circulate on ebay... well, maybe have seen one identified as such, so it's worth checking.
He also very nicely consented to do just the body for me, since I already had an original chassis. (which was missing its body mounts - he did a couple of those too, and then I found two originals at Roger's in Chicago - talk about luck!).
I had originally planned to try to recreate the original, but in fact I find the Cox wheels very ugly, and since I had a full set of the Ulrichs, they went on there, and I think the car looks a lot better that way! Too bad Cox didn't do a magnesium version of the originals, like their other hard body cars!
I was also intending to find a repro interior, but since the Canadian guy sent me the original model kit interior with the body, I wound up using that, and kind of like it... I didn't have the right driver either, and had to do major surgery on a Lotus 30/40 driver - ouch!

Got any pictures of your Gurney Stocker Don? Will definitely be starting from "scratch" building mine Haven't got any bits at all, although got a Galaxie kit in the watch list Now just a small matter of dimensions, making the chassis, sourcing a motor and whatever wheels are gonna go under the skirt . Nothing to it really
Here's the '65 kit with roll cage, re tooled parts, I take it this would be fine for a recreation?

Here's mine, a work in progress. I am doing the 65 version first (also based on an original AMT Lorenzen kit), then building a 66. Two bodies for one chassis ... or who knows, maybe I eventually find another one of these beautiful nickel plated pieces of jewelry?

Side chrome already shaved, wipers removed and waiting on my decals so I can know just how far I can relocate the gas door (seems to have been moved on Gurney's original Galaxies). Note the broken Ulrich wheel, the outer rim is gone.
This stuff is addictive! Rick, I think you and this thread are to blame in my case ... ;-)

Great looking cars guys. Thanks for showing them here!
..........Note the broken Ulrich wheel, the outer rim is gone............
Markus, that broken wheel would make a great wheel insert for a set screw wheel. Then you'd have the best of both worlds, the looks of a die cast Ulrich stock car wheel and the performance of a precision machined aluminum set screw wheel.
An example:
The stock parts are on the top and the modified parts are on the bottom row. There's a Russkit Dragster rear wheel, some kind of funky Ulrich O-ring front wheel, a Cox knock-off and a 5-40 set screw.

I have 2 AMT '65 kits and 4 '66 kits to do some Gurney's too. I have only one 36D Nascar motor in my stock but others are still available NOS out there. I'd probably better pick up one or two to stash away.
I have the decal set like what Don has on his car above, but I want to pick up the repro Cox set to do that version, too.
Here's what Mr. Gurney's 1965 Ford looked like

"We're not happy unless you're not happy"
"You want it when?"

Sounds like you've got quite a few Stocker repros to get building Doug! Thanks for the picture of the Galaxie in '65

thanks! Yes this is very contageous! What a cool little model these things are. As a "3 in 1" and "Trophy Series" veteran, building one that actually moves is a new experience to me!

Awesome! But I don't have access to a lathe (yet). Beautiful work!

I had some requests for some basic chassis dimensions. Here are some ball park dimensions:
